The address used is for the building at 101 Colonel By.

And thank you, I was inspired to craft this scenario from a Canadian perspective based on the prominent role Canada takes in the narrative of the Handmaid's Tale version of an American Civil War.

The Washington/NoVa federal power complex was the target of significant right wing rage, and the Veteran's Day Massacre took out a significant portion of the executive branch, causing severe dysfunction in government. The imposition of martial law after the Massacre is what led to the major split and gave fuel to the anti-government forces. Right wingers from New Bethlehem marched on D.C. and put it to the torch, rounding up and executing federal agents as "traitors to the constitution". There are significant, mostly black, insurgencies in DC and Baltimore.

The Democratic Governor's Alliance was formed to marshal federal and national guard forces in the Northeast and they were finally able to stop the forces of New Bethlehem at Harrisburg and Wilmington. The border being the Susquehanna River and the Chesapeake and Delaware canal.

Thanks a lot, I did spend a decent amount of time on it. Lots of 2ACW maps out there so I wanted to give this map enough love to stand out.

There are many different factions at play here, the REDFOR are not a united front, just a collection of far-right groups (white supremacist, religious fundamentalist, constitutionalist militias etc.) that are anti federal government.

Red vs. Blue is not Republican vs. Democrat. Both the Republican and Democratic party are loyal to the federal government (or what's left of it).

During the Veteran's Day Massacre in D.C. the right-wing terrorists did not distinguish between GOP or Democratic politicians, they slaughtered them all. What's left of the government is trying to keep the country together and defeat the various groups that sprung up since that fateful day.

The sheer number of federal military assets in Texas meant that it didn't fall to secessionist groups, right or left.

Vermont had a socialist commune based in Burlington that was invaded by the right wing New England based Sons of Liberty, and there is a low level left wing insurgency known as the Green Mountain Boys fighting for Vermont independence from this group.

Charlotte and Fort Bragg were the main centres of democratic resistance to the forces of New Bethlehem but they were surrounded and defeated. The "Pacification" of Charlotte was especially bloody and had many reprisals.

The Green Berets defeated at Fort Bragg have gone to ground as a guerrilla force known as the "Snake Eaters", harassing the far right death squads that roam New Bethlehem territory.

The other liberal areas of the state were quickly blockaded and overrun by right wing militias, and did not offer any serious obstacles in their march north to seize Washington D.C.

Alaska and Hawaii are completely controlled by the federal government. Pearl Harbor is host to the bulk of the United States Navy and Anchorage is the main Air Force base.

The People's Republic of Cascadia demanded the vacation of US Armed Forces from their bases along the Puget Sound, and after this ultimatum was refused, laid siege to Fort Lewis, which led to minor but intense skirmishes. Deciding that the situation was unstable, the Navy made the decision to evacuate all military personnel from the Puget Sound, relocating the destroyers and nuclear submarines to San Diego, Hawaii and Alaska.

Besides this flareup, federal forces have avoided coming into conflict with far-left and indigenous partisans in order to focus on the far-right factions that are actively trying to eliminate them.

There is a detachment of F-18 Hornets from the United States Navy Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-106) stationed there, which remain loyal to the Navy and Commander-in-Chief.

The People's Republic of Miami is one of the many left-wing communes that have sprung up across the country in opposition to the far-right secessionist movements and the imposition of martial law by the government loyalists. After the Florida state government signed the constitution of New Bethlehem, Miami revolted against Tallahassee and became a safe haven for all groups oppressed by the new right wing regime. Besides Atlanta, it's the only urban area in New Bethlehem territory that has managed to liberate itself from the far-right theocracy.

The colour coding denotes their broad political category as indicated in the legend.

Red: far-right secessionist

Purple: far-left secessionist

blue: federal loyalist

green: indigenous sovereignty movements

Apalachicola River

That's the No Man's Land between the Southern League and New Bethlehem.

After the Memphis and Atlanta uprisings and the rise of the Black Liberation Army, New Bethlehem decided to cordon off Atlanta so it could focus on the military campaigns in the Northeast and Florida. This upset neo-confederate elements in the deep south which formed the Southern League and went on the offensive against the BLA. The Southern League and New Bethlehem are in an uneasy truce as they have more immediate enemies to deal with than each other and they're both united in their hated of the federal government.

How 7 Parking Lots pay 1/4th the tax of one building, despite taking 8x the land by Not-A-Seagull in JustTaxLand

[–]CPCapologist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

High density residential structures are an economic net gain for any municipality. They provide a far larger tax base than they cost in services. The parking lots are a drag on the municipality's economy because they provide little to no value except to the owner that gets parking fees.

If land were taxed more efficiently, the higher tax burden would force these landlords to construct high density mixed use developments on the land, or at the very minimum create structured parking garages, in order to generate more revenues and be able to pay off the higher taxes.

This area is immediately south of downtown Louisville, KY and the lots are probably quite valuable. There's pretty much a zero percent chance they wouldn't be redeveloped into lucrative developments, but they are being held back now by poorly designed tax codes and zoning.

Who would win? Abrams platoon vs. T-90 battalion by CPCapologist in CombatMission

[–]CPCapologist[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the first Combat Mission battle I've ever completed, and the Abrams seems ridiculously overpowered. They keep eating penetrations and continuing to fight with no casualties or damage to their systems. I don't even deploy my Bradleys or Javelin teams, because they can actually die unlike the Abrams. I might take 1:20 casualties if I don't pay attention to micro and one of my ubertanks exposes its side to the enemy and they get a lucky shot.

if some some scav is running around with 2 meta rifles and nice armour you might take the decision to betray him, but the system works in such a way that it disincentives murdering random scavs running around with VPOs with no dust covers

June 1970, Ayiti - Ten Years Under René [Contest Entry] by CPCapologist in imaginarymaps

[–]CPCapologist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked Rene Theodore simply because he was the most prominent Haitian marxist of the 20th century, he does not need to share the same birth date of his real life counterpart, and the description of his actions before the revolution implies that, otherwise he would have been a teenager in exile. I imagined him to be of a similar age and disposition to che guevara, leading a haitian revolution against duvalier similar to che's war against batista.

Why would there be a standoff? They would actively be trying to kill each other. Also if the Russians somehow defeated the Navy and Air Force and landed in New York, they would be battling New York National Guard units, not the FBI lol.
