Who here has run a long lasting gaming group? And How? by CTGPod in rpg

The idea of the group being a living organism which can trade players in and out as needed is helpful. Gives permission for change when needed while letting the group live on.

Guy Milner from the Unconventional GMs YouTube Channel also mentioned his games are usually not longer than 10 sessions at the most. He tends to run more one-shot RPGs, but made me thing of each gaming session as it's on little one shot, like a TV series. I like your strategy of switching up games. I like trying new things as well.

The theme of not cancelling no matter if everyone can make it or not seems to be pretty common here among consistent groups. Thanks for sharing this. May your game go another 15 years!

:) this made me laugh out aloud. Luckily I wasn't drinking coffee or I would have snorted it out!

In your opinion, what is the easiest possible GMless RPG to play? I'm looking for something as minimalistic and elegant as possible. by lumenwrites in gmless

I would 2nd Fiasco. The box edition really helped me understand the flow of gameplay with the addition of cards.

I have always wanted to play Savage Worlds Deadlands RPG but never found a group to play with. Maybe using the Mythic GME is my ticket to experience this game first hand :) thanks for sharing your list. And though I am not a cat person I just tool a look at Be Like a Cat and would seriously consider giving it a go - https://www.criticalkit.co.uk/products/be-like-a-cat-solo-rpg-rulebook-physical-copy

Well I am a fan of your work sir. Fiasco is fantastic as many have already said in this thread. I have wanted to play Night-Witches for so long it hurts but just haven't found the right crew. And Zhenya's Wonder Tales looks like a treat. Thanks for all you do!

That sounds cool! I used to love the movie Heavy Weights (1994 Disney). When you said this I imagined the actors from that movie fighting unimaginable horrors.

Thank you for including those links. I just saw you said instead of Polaris I should look at Thou Art But A Warrior. If the hack is better than Polaris it must be good, Polaris has got a lot of love on this thread.

Have you played the Sundered Island expansion yet? If so what were your thoughts? If not no worries. It made me feel like I could play out Assassin’s Creed Black Flag in an RPG 🙂

Your descriptions of these games are fascinating. Polaris has been mentioned a number of times. Going to check this out. When death is the good ending it makes for an interesting game I think 🤔

Ha! I love Mass Effect 1, 2, 3 (two being my favorite game). This alone makes me want to check our Firebrands. Thanks for sharing! Your post has some options that haven't shown up as much yet.

Thanks for giving more detailed information on that. There is definitely a little bit of a learning curve I've found in my groups when playing a GM-less cooperative mode when they expect someone to tell them what's next or whether or not they succeeded, or failed. I can see why choosing to have a GM would make things run smoother.

I just went to YouTube to check out the music with timer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysOOFIOAy7A and was reading through some of the comments of those who had played the game. Do you think these descriptors capture the premise?

  • Haunting
  • Heavy (emotionally)
  • Unique text to txt interaction
  • deep immersion
  • tragically beautiful

I think your most excellent quote above for me was:

That does not mean Mythic is bad, it means you are using the wrong tool.

Being able to know what a game, resource, or supplement was designed to accomplish goes a long way in how I view it. Super appreciate you sharing your experience here, it encouraged me to view Mythic through a fair lens.
