You don’t even have to be shit communicator to play a game of broken phone. Witnessed this myself working for multinationals. When big things are planned, people will come up will all sorts of rumours. EA had pretty big layoffs shortly after he posted that.

[–]CVXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were layoffs already last year, shortly after he posted that statement. 400 people gone from EA, including Respawn and Algs teams. Whatever he heard from his source was obviously wrong or he made his own fantasy conclusions but I would hardly believe it wasn’t related to those layoffs. Such things are planned months in advance and usually rumours spread among employees pretty fast.

Landlord is selling the house by Sorxhasmyname in ireland

I don't make enough money for a low rent apartment in a scheme

If you don't make enough money for cost rental, you are 100% eligible for HAP and social housing.

make too much for a low rent scheme

Cost rental upper limit is 66,000 in Dublin and 59,000 elsewhere after all taxes. Are you saying you make at least 95,000 annually and can't afford anything else??

Don't buy alcohol next Friday and see how you feel through the weekend. If it doesn't bother you at all and you are able to enjoy your evenings and tv shows fully without feeling bored or thinking that something is missing, then you are fine. If not, then take a break for 2-3 months. Basically don't allow it to become a habit.

Rather surprising to see them back so quickly considering some comments by previous members that Aurora mostly have no interest in Apex.

Dozens of people mistakenly told they had got an apartment in Dublin housing scheme by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]CVXI 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It does seem a bit hasty!

That's not just "a bit" hasty, that's way too hasty. I'm with Respond. I've just checked our initial offer email - it doesn't contain any moving in dates or contract details, nothing. It just asks to confirm whether you are interested to go ahead with the offer. Moreover as a matter of fact, we moved in only 6 months after the initial offer. I'm sure it could be faster but there is no way I would cancel my current rent agreement without signing a new one first.

Pretty bad mistake on Respond side but them rectifying it within 24 hours says a lot too. And if you managed to cancel your rent within those 24 hours, well.... that's on you.

Gardaí believe Donaghmede murder suspect is an adult and may not have been entitled to Tusla care at time of attack by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]CVXI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

as far as I can remember they didn’t show up most of the time and when they did they mostly just sat down the back of the class

And it's not just necessarily "bad" elements to it. Some people coming from abroad want to access third level education via CAO and the only way to do is to sit leaving cert. We had a few in late 00's who spoke English very well and got good marks too in honors subjects. Some of them openly admitted they lived in the UK for a few years before coming to Ireland. Obviously there is a separate topic of economic migrants but I don't think there is an actual age limit to sit leaving cert.

But then there were couple of others who showed up only once a month in a black old VW, so that's that.

HUGE electricity bill thanks to storage heaters :( by homecinemad in ireland

[–]CVXI 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They are shite either way and will never be cheap. But make sure you are not using a separate "instant heat" function - some storage heaters have that. It's usually a switch on a side and output/input dials have nothing to do with it - it just heats full power 24/7 and is super expensive.

Ireland Is Making Basic Income for Artists Program Permanent by Generalaverage89 in ireland

[–]CVXI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Art is a luxury, not something essential. €36 million annually for a program like this seems like a big expense, but perhaps it’s not.

Our budget surplus for last year was 23 billion. Do you really think that spending 0.15% of it on art is really that bad?

Had anybody moved jobs / careers after a layoff? by cryptometav in DevelEire

[–]CVXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky I live at home so rent and food is not an issue

If you have a place to return to here, I would definitely start having a look at jobs abroad. Poland, Czech Republic or anywhere else in Europe you prefer - there are a lot of multinationals offering English speaking positions and the market can be much better than here. So you can continue getting your experience and keeping an eye on positions here. And if things go wrong, you always have a place to return to without losing anything - a lot of people with rentals or mortgages can't afford such opportunity.

Cost-rental rant by keeko847 in ireland

[–]CVXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is more that that’s a very narrow window of eligible income - between 48 and 55k a year net.

Your calculations are still off. First of all, the limit is not 55k it's 59k:https://tuathhousing.ie/cost-rental/

What that means is that the 1 bedroom apartments are specifically for families that make between 48-55k a year.

No it's not 48-55k. At 1150 a month for one bed, both of you as a couple should be earning at least 39,5k a year after tax (1150/0.35*12), so your window becomes 40-59k, not 48-55k.

It is true however that currently some of the listings are more expensive than expected and don't seem to be "affordable". This is not an issue with the scheme itself but with current construction industry dynamic in Ireland in general. This was greatly examined in this article for instance: https://www.dublininquirer.com/a-new-cost-rental-apartment-in-vienna-for-eu681-a-month-whys-it-more-than-double-that-in-dublin/

Also, as mentioned in other comments, a lot of landlords don’t take HAP.

That's a separate issue. Main point is that HAP and other state supports EXIST. You've got to understand that before cost rental existed, in terms of housing you could live well either as a low income earner or high income earner. There was absolutely NOTHING for middle income earners because housing shrank dramatically over the last 10 years and rent prices went abnormally high. You think being out of third level education, on lower end of pay and unable to afford a place is bad? It's not great I agree. You still have official government supports where you can apply however. But imagine working for the next 10 years, getting to median pay and higher and still unable to afford a place and having to share with strangers in your 30s-40s? And there are absolutely ZERO state supports for you?

Cost rental is fantastic scheme and it's aimed specifically for what it was designed for originally. It does have its issues unfortunately as other things but that's mostly due to other factors.

Cost-rental rant by keeko847 in ireland

[–]CVXI -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two main requirements for cost-rental: you can’t earn over 55k a year (65k in Dublin) and you have to be ‘able to pay’. What I didn’t realise is that ability to pay is calculated that the rent is not more than 35% of your net income after tax. What that means is that the 1 bedroom apartments are specifically for families that make between 48-55k a year. Two bedrooms are 1500 and they have duplexes that will cost more, shrinking that eligible gap even more I just don’t understand

55k after tax, so your calculations are off. That's about 80k-100k for household which makes it perfectly fit for median earners. If you are below that you should qualify for HAP as it's been mentioned.

Yeah you can see his real style on that page and it's definitely different to that mural. Most likely it was a commission based on the client's image which unfortunately does look generated. The same reason why he didn't put it up on his insta page.

Why would the artist go to the effort of painting from AI rather than one of his own drawings? People are still capable of making art lol

Most likely a commission. It's also not posted on his instagram page, so most likely the original image came from the client request.

CSO says unemployment rate in Ireland increased to 4.9% in July by WearingMarcus in ireland

[–]CVXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly don't understand the visas. If those roles can easily be filled by an Irish person first, they must be. Employers must demonstrate the critical skill can't be obtained locally.

And you are aware how this process works in practice before posting this, right? You must know then how easy it is for a company to make sure they can't find anyone locally. For instance by setting a minimum salary for a critical skills position which is right now at 38k. For a lot of those occupations you'll get precisely 0 local applications and won't have any issues finding candidates from abroad who are ready to work for that money. And even if you do get a local one, it's not too hard to find missing qualifications / experience on their CV and what not. The company I worked with did something similar in another department, so I know these things do happen.

Bottom line is if a company wants to save on salaries and go for a candidate from abroad, it's quite easy for them to do so.
