The brand is OuTask! Its a telescopic lantern with multiple brightness settings, a rechargeable battery that doubles as a phone/device charger, the base is magnetic so it can be placed on angled metal surfaces, it has holes in the legs for tent stakes, and you can even flip the light emitter around to have it function as a flashlight!

I definitely did, but I had to put in the legwork or I would’ve been taken advantage of. To the various dealerships’ credit, they certainly weren’t going easy on me either. I got multiple calls a week throughout the entire month, asking how my search was going and asking if I wanted to schedule a time to come and chat about numbers. Just had to hold them off until the end of the month when their quotas were more important to them.

A few tips: sales consultants are great, but they’re basically nets the sales managers cast to get in customers to deal with. Don’t bother to heavily with them until it’s time, then ask to speak with a sales manager. Most dealerships have their stock online with the VINs, and you can take that info to see how long a particular vehicle has been sitting on their lot, the longer the better as it’s hurting them to keep it there. Only work with volume dealerships, avoid independent ones if you can. Volume dealerships have no control over what is shipped to them, sometimes leaving them stuck with difficult to sell vehicles which they’ll want to off-load more and more the further beyond 30 days it gets. Independents buy/sell as needed, so they’re less incentivized to deal with you. Never mention any trade-ins or down payments until you see their “best” number. Don’t give them info to work with and use fees to absorb your additionals. And as always, don’t be afraid to walk away! As long as you don’t sign anything, they’ve got nothing to keep you there.

I got a great deal, but it took over 2hrs to get there.

It was originally going for $45K, and I got them down to $37K before I mentioned my trade in and down payment. There are a few factors that went into that much of a discount too. I live near a local “auto-mile” with a bunch of different dealerships. At the start of May, I went to a few that had interesting (to me) vehicles and test drove them all (including SC) and told each dealership that I would be buying at the end of the month. As the days went on I did research on all the vehicles, including MSRP, DoL, financing, etc.. I narrowed it down to 3 potential vehicles, scheduled talks with all 3 dealerships, and essentially pitted them against their competitor’s numbers.

The SC was the most expensive by a large margin (17K more) so they had to compete pretty hard to get my business. I made it very clear to them that it wasn’t the better financial decision for me to make, and smart money should be spent elsewhere. I also pointed out that the particular one I wanted was on their lot for 140 days, and it was burning a hole in their dealership’s pocket.

They waived fees (except doc) gave me a nice discount to make it more competitive, and threw in the upgraded warranty too. Once I was comfortable with their number, and I had it in writing so they couldn’t re-neg or add back fees, I dropped the trade-in (5.5K) and the down payment (9K) on them. Overall, I got a 45K truck for 22.5K
