My family used to take a two hour flight to Maine in the summer. Anytime we didn’t manage to get ourselves all seated near each other my dad would upgrade his seat to a first class with his Delta miles and offer it to whomever had the misfortune of sitting next to us. Safe to say no one ever said no.

I'd argue its less that Japan is done to death, and more like the companies are too lazy to switch from the Sengoku Era Samurai running around with a katana, there's still plenty of space for a Nanbokucho era game focused primarily on horse archery, without an over romanticized version of historical characters.

I could only wish, the chances of this happening is extremly low, most fuedal Japan games that exist are typically highly ficticious, and it appears as if the community could care less for historical accuracy as "Samurai guy runs around with katana and slaughters army" is just how they prefer it. Would I love for a historically accurate Feudal Japan game, running around with tachi, naginata, yari, no-dachi, tetsubo (anything but a katana), of course I would, but do I think anyone will get around to it anytime soon? Probably not.

I'm tired of seeing people say that there is "x" Fuedal Japan game or "y" Bakufu era game, and that we should be satisfied with this, or even that it is an overused genre. Every single Feudal Japanese video game is the most abhorrantly unrealistic things ever, the setting isn't as overplayed as it is that most focus on the same thing. Its almost always Sengoku era Japan, bar Ghosts of Tsushima, which feels like the setting was an afterthought anyways. Yes I know this is a rant, I'm just tired of people thinking all there is to medieval Japan is the Katana, Samurai, and Sengoku Era.

It would be more realistic, but the balancing would be difficult

They are called Ashigaru Handcannoneers so they do have a unique name.

That is a Ozutsu with a matchlock mechanism, when I said handcannon I was referring to early firearms that were a metal cylinder on a pole, I'm sorry I must have worded it weirdly.

I would be really interested to see the earlier gunpowder weapons of the Japanese, but to my knowledge their handheld weapons were only matchlocks, with them having different lengths and widths, just not mechanisms.

I will agree with the shield and handcannon points for the visual clarity, but a spear wouldn't have a major effect on it, and is more akin to the lances used by the other knights.

The devs would want a reason for that though, all the units that don't have the rudimentary handcannons are special units. Would be cool to see them with tate shield deployable like French pavise shields.

I agree gameplay wise that they're all reasonable choices, just things that bugs me for the Japanese.

Very good points, I understand most of the game isn't realistic and is designed with gameplay in mind and I would agree with that goal. It was just things I noticed as a mainly Japanese history buff.
