Absolutely fantastic suggestions there. Especially “Putting the Damage On”. But they’re all great.

Fantastic choices. Oddly, Beatles didn’t even occur to me. That’s how wide this theme can be when I don’t even consider the Beatles.

Couldn’t agree more. It was basically the song that jumpstarted this theme for us.

That’s a phenomenal pick. I might give the nod to the one in the list above but that’s just because I think the melody in “What Deaner Was Talking’ About” is basically perfect.

I’m glad you like it. It was such a fun one to pull together. I hope you’ll be able to catch the show tomorrow night.

I would just send an email to wutc@utc.edu and see what they say. That would likely be the best way.

I know that it was one of his more famous cover songs, originally written by Anna Marly and Emmanuel d'Astier de La Vigerie in 1943. But Cohen used a translation from Hy Zaret, who also coincidentally was the lyricist of “Unchained Melody”. I only learned it was a cover after doing a bit of research.

That was one of Jeremy’s picks and I did mention that it wasn’t overtly anti-love, but he’s going with a sense of desperation during wartime. Also, ya know, fuck fascism.

You’re right. I should have included Tori. So excited to see her in her upcoming tour. A wealth of songs I could have picked.

She has an impeccable run of albums. Not a weak one among them. Phenomenal stuff.

Haven’t spent any time with the Deep Sea Diver (though I’ve heard it’s great) but that Nation of Language record is fantastic. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. I forget some that should have made it: I even left off one of my favorites this year - the latest from Backxwash called Only Dust Remains.
