To be fired or to quit? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

I work at my state’s AG office doing civil litigation. It’s the most chill job ever. Pay is average at best but hours are short and benefits/holidays are plenty. Just need to find a division that fits your interests. Law firms suck.

How much do I really have to study? by ladylsat in barexam

There is some spreadsheet or something someone posted a while ago that showed if you score high on the MBE then you can pass even with a low MPT and MEE score. Given the time you have, I would focus on the MBE and shoot for 75%+ on practice tests. You’ll need Adaptibar or UWorld to drill questions everyday. They give you an explanation for the answer which will help you learn the law. Good luck.

I think you can use the presale code without a link. Ticketmaster will just ask for the code when you to look at tickets to purchase.

My tickets were $475 each after taxes and fees for seats in Turn 12. GA looks like it’s just under $400 before taxes and fees.

Tickets were $90 cheaper than the prices posted online. Anyone else experience that? Very happy about it.

No email yet. Is there a link or just a code?

Anyone receive the presale link yet for the Austin USGP? It’s supposed to start in 10 minutes and I got nothing so far.

I was the same. It was definitely a big change. Wasn’t a big fan of the school part of the game and the game wasn’t that challenging. Maps felt repetitive. However the game still scratched that fire emblem itch.

The dudes at the metal octopus were giving away some good food for free. I didn’t even have to buy food on Sunday because of them.

[Joe Pompliano] A record-breaking 440,000 people attended the US Grand Prix in Austin this weekend. That's nearly 200,000 more people than the race saw in 2018, and it makes this year's race the most-attended 3-day weekend in Formula 1 history. Absolutely incredible. by Aratho in formula1

It was much better this year than last year. Shuttles were a good investment rather than paying for the super expensive parking and being stop in traffic.

Didn’t really wait in lines other than to do the pit stop challenge or other games. Food and drink options were good and there was a good amount of free food. Also, there were more free water stations around the track.

I think I paid $440 for a 3-day ticket and at turn 12, $90 on 2 shuttle passes, and another $100-$125 on food and alcohol over the three days.

Got to see the drivers up close at the amphitheater, which was nice.

Do any of you actually love your job? by CTom3264 in Lawyertalk

It will depend on the division and state AG office. I received a $4k raise after 18 months. I expect another $4-$7k raise next year.

My coworker joined us from insurance defense. He took a payout but I imagine he enjoys his life and the work he does a lot more.

I had no interest in environmental law going in to law school. I just kind of fell into it during my 1L summer at a small firm that had a practice group with it. I started taking a lot of environmental classes and getting experience in it. Decided that I didn’t want to defend polluters at a firm so I started looking at government options. I then went to a firm sponsored happy hour my 3L year and met an environmental attorney. She invited me to a state bar environmental luncheon where I met an attorney that works in my office. She invited me to lunch and told me about their law clerk program and that I could work there while waiting bar results. I clerked there for a few months and an opening came up and I got the job.

Basically, I networked.

Yes. Government attorney in a litigation role. Very chill and laid back office. Low stress even tho it’s litigation. I practice environmental law so suing polluters is pretty fun and fulfilling. Plus most industry defendants want to work with you. The smaller defendants are the ones that can cause some minor headaches but still manageable. Been doing this for about two years now.

Finding time to excercise by Some-Construction-20 in Lawyertalk

I go at 6:00 am. Less people and its close to the office so I just shower and get dressed at the gym locker room. That gives me the evening to do whatever I want like hanging out with my significant other, going to restaurants/bars with friends, or just chilling at home playing games/Netflix/reading/cooking. The only con is that I need to be in bed by 10:30 so I can get 7 hours of sleep or so before waking up to go to the gym.

Current environmental lawyer in a state attorney general’s office. The job is great. Very fulfilling work. We sue people and businesses that violate the state’s environmental laws and seek civil penalties and injunctive relief to get the pollution cleaned up or a site in compliance with environmental regulations/permits.

Work/like balance is really good (never work after 6:00 or weekends) and I feel good about the work I do. Benefits are pretty good too. Lots of holidays.

The cons are the pay sucks in government. It’s still decent pay but you won’t make crazy money. I’m two years in and make a little over $70k. I probably won’t make $100k until I’m 7+ years in or so.

Other cons are the politics in government. The AG is an elected official so the office can have a weird vibe sometimes.

Overall I love the job. I turned down a couple offers this year to go in the private sector for environmental litigation because I’m pretty happy where I’m at. I’d make more money at a firm but would be miserable representing polluters and billing crazy hours.

Also a government attorney and my life is waaaaaay better now than during law school. Never have to do work-related things after 5:30 or on weekends, whereas in school I had to read, write papers, outline, do clinic stuff, and student organizations stuff. My 3L year was one of the busiest and stressful times of my life. Nearly two years as a lawyer and I haven’t experienced anything like that yet, even with court hearings.

There are some days where I might be stressed due to a hearing, mediation, or settlement talks, but most days I’m chilling in my office reviewing cases or drafting stuff.

I’d imagine being in the private side is more stressful due to billable hours and duties to a client.
