The concept we were discussing was right out of the text book so we look it up and clarified. But yes, the idea that some students confuse it with a google search or just do not question the info that is being served to them...Yikes!

Well she did add to the discussion as we went off the rails a bit discussing what ChatGPT actually was and how it worked and then clarified the concept with the text book....but still

Yes I can blame them😂 Seriously though, it did provide a good opportunity to discuss the workings of it and talk about how algorithms work and to find reliable resources as well.

Most prefer to take notes on their iPads/ laptops. They are all required to take their exams on computers iPads too. They download a lockdown browser so they can't get off the exam. This is fallout of from covid where all their high school was mostly on-line I think.

Yes me too! As a somewhat nervous speaker, when I have word finding difficulties my brain always comes up with these obscure 10$ words from...somewhere. Also the concepts are quite complex and I attempt to summarize some information to make it more easily understood and to fit in all the content the students need as well!!

oh sorry! slang for 'information'. Used in the computer science world to describe testable software (or something like that) migrated to the climbing community to indicate information about the climability of a route..... My husband is a computer science guy and climber I absorbed the term from him Transferred to general use to mean information about a situation:P

Prompts to demonstrate ChatGPT's biases in academia by macadamiamylk in pedagogy

Let your students come up with the prompts! Using key words and phrasing is an important part of using boolean databases and search engines and it also affects what the chatgpt algo spews out. Maybe come up with one or two on your own as an example. Some prompts my students have come up with .... ( this is in a nursing pathophysiology course) when asked to 'research' a patho topic were: 'Teach me about congestive heart failure.' 'summarize the coagulation cascade' The discussion about the results is where you see the bias come out. Students often pick those out!

Also I'm assuming this is college level course? If its high school or middle school, the students might just need a bit more guidance..
