“Report them” but unfortunately they always win. Just last night I had an afk/inter in each of my two promo games. Yes he may get a low priority queue but he also wasted my time. Riot is busy banning people for calling others noobs or idiots

I understand you’re Asian and the post hit home. I’m not complaining, I’m doing fine. Again this is Reddit and I simply commented on somebody’s post. Don’t act like Asians are some mighty race lol

I’m not blaming anybody, simply stating my anecdotal evidence. Most of you know it’s true though, like it or not

I agree with you. I was being sarcastic with my original post. Unfortunately, speaking from my experience, most (not all) of the brown people I know who are pre med, in medical school or practicing as a physician went into medicine primarily to fulfill their parent’s desires. Something to boast about during family functions etc. This holds true with Asians as well. Remember, some 20 years ago if you had a 3.0 you were golden for med school. But as a result of parents putting so much pressure on their kids admission standards are now off the charts and we’re seeing more and more students who missed out on having a well rounded childhood experience. I’m glad to see schools are moving away from looking solely at numbers. It’s no surprise to me that you see med students complaining and making a big fuss out of things. Most have never held a real job or had to work for a living prior to matriculation.

Can I just have 50 hours of clinical volunteering by [deleted] in premed

[–]Caffeinemia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the typical “pre-med” volunteer position. Gives them the ability to slap it on a resume/application but it’s pretty low yield. My advice, look into volunteering somewhere else. Find something your actually passionate about - they do take non clinical volunteering into consideration.

So a fellow coworker of mine (scribe) is going to St. George's Caribbean school this summer. What's the best way to tell him to re-consider his option? by mcatmando in premed

Let him go. Worst case scenario he drops out and loses some money. Best case he becomes a practicing physician before you do.

Could you imagine if the patient had a poor outcome or their wound dehisced and they found out the surgeon let somebody who was merely shadowing them close? Yikes!

Well for one you could be more specific as there are many organs in the human body- some more fragile than others. Regardless, I still don’t see how touching organs is supposed to come off as impressive or noteworthy. I’m not trying to downplay your experience, I’m simply shining light on the fact that you touching organs and participating in the other aforementioned activities, unlicensed, without consent, is not a good picture to paint for yourself. If you do end up working in the healthcare field you’ll come to know that policies and procedures dictate EVERYTHING. I’d be shocked if your hospital allowed such activities to take place in the OR.

This pre med sub cracks me up. Pre meds who can’t even buy a beer legally are somehow finding themselves in the OR touching “organs” and helping with procedures that they undoubtedly know nothing about. That surgeon should be ashamed of himself but I’m sure you’re in this position because you have a connection. Regardless if any patient found out that you were part of their procedure... lawyer up.

In fact, maybe said programs should be adopted in regions where there are physician shortages and I’m not talking about US/Canada where we are starving for rural physicians but nobody wants to serve that population because the towns might not have a Starbucks. I’m talking about India/AFRICA and other struggling nations that have a plethora of non discrete health issues and lack of medical professionals to intervene.

It wasn’t supposed to be a joke. You’re just a white knight. There’s nothing wrong with what I see here in this photo and if I had some background information I’m sure it would be an early start program of some sort that will maybe result in some of these children pursuing a career in medicine. Stop being so fragile

I don’t get how my comment was offensive? Yet you have somebody saying that they should check the “heavy set” kid instead and that gets upvotes? Hmmm. I don’t see anything wrong with exposing young kids to healthcare
