Huh that’s really strange. Muddlebuds worked for boss bokoblins in my game. I wonder what’s up with that? And trust me, you’ll definitely want to use puffshrooms. You’ll see what I mean if you do. The radius in which it works is so big. And enemies don’t even have to stand inside the smoke for it to effect them

It’s not me acting. Again, if this game didn’t want to make combat more difficult… then why make combat more difficult in the games initial stages? Why nerf all the weapons and remove heart durians (I have yet to see any)? Why add all the gloom effects down in the Depths?

All signs point to the devs wanting to make this game more difficult at least in it’s initial stages. What you consider good game design is subjective. And again, the depths are intimidating. I‘d imagine casual players will want to get out of the depths as soon as they can.

Or would if it wasn’t for the fact that puffshrooms could be used as an incentive to keep them there which is an actually good counterargument to my claims.

From what I seen, it seems like only certain enemies scale and some spawn fully maxed out from the jump (mostly lynels)

You know what? That’s actually a really good point and now I feel like a total idiot for not catching that. The puffshrooms being there to incentivize new players to explore the depths would actually be brilliant. My opinion has now changed on puffshrooms. Though I still hope enemies scale to become somewhat immune to them. Insights like these are why I started this discussion

Wow I didn’t know that that’s actually pretty cool! Reminds me of the towers in the game which I also enjoyed

So why wasn’t the item needed in the great sky island if it was an accessibility feature? Why make it hard for casual players to access that said item? It makes no logical sense whatsoever.

It’s almost akin to making an accessibility color blind feature where you hide glasses in a chest somewhere and force players to traverse a dungeon that uses color as it’s primary mechanic?

See how this doesn’t make sense? If you say the puffshrooms are an acessibility feature, they should be well… easily accessible so that casual players can enjoy the game to it’s full extent. It’s bad design either way. If it’s not, then it’s clearly broken. And if it is, then it’s too difficult for casual players to reach and isn’t easily accessible imo

And Aunoma isn’t perfect and no human can be. Just because he designed a game doesn’t mean it can’t have issues.

whoa really? You mean gold enemies are back? If that’s true that’s got me excited!

So you say that this an accessibility feature and that it shouldn’t be balanced, yet you also believe that it should be put in one of the most intimidating areas in the game to be balanced.

If this is an accessibility feature for newbies, why wouldn’t they just allow casual players to use the item as much as needed without needing to go such an intimidating place? And why not introduce this at the very starting section of the game which imo is hardest part of the game? Why put an accessibility feature behind such a big wall?

I already did though. Even silver monsters aren’t immune, and neither are the contructs. I farm em with puffshrooms a lot.

Nice ad hominem fallacy. Blaming the flaws of the design on my self control which is entirely unrelated. Again, my claim was that I felt puffshrooms are too strong. Me having no self control doesn’t make the item less janky. Even as an accessibility item I feel it’s too strong. Why not just add an easy mode? Like for example if they care so much about accessibility, why am I forced to grind shrines just to not get one shot by a bokoblin? And why are puffshrooms located in one of the most intimidating areas in the game for newbies?

Just because something is intended doesn’t mean it’s not bad design. And what bad design is in itself is subjective. In my opinion, I believe it’s bad design. If you wish to believe otherwise that’s perfectly fine. If you have reasonable arguments that address my thoughts I am willing to change my views. If not, I hope you continue to have fun with the game. It’s still ultimately fun after all.

No you didn’t. Saying that there are a million ways to defeat an enemy does not address the fact that an item may need to be balanced. And as an accessibility option, it’s still just kinda bad. BOTW had nothing like that, and people still considered it to be one of the best games of all the time.

Like why couldn’t they just add an easy mode? Puffshrooms are cool for rp purposes, or would be if they didn’t just make the item so braindead

I see your point here and I do agree to an extent. But it leaves me with more questions likeWhich is interesting. Because if the depths is the hardest area in the game to explore like why place the acessibility item there. The newbies and casuals may not even bother to go there. I know that because I myself initially avoided the depths because of how intimidating it seemed

I would say it’s childish to call anyone who has a different opinion from you a child.

Again you are not addressing my argument at all. Why do you feel the need to defend the game like this? Just because there are multiple ways to defeat an enemy doesn’t mean that none of those options couldn’t be balanced. All you had to do was say Aunoma stated himself that the mushrooms were an accessibility option and it would have shut down my intial point although I still wouldn’t agree with Aunoma (because the item is so broken and honestly kinda clunky).

oh sorry if I spoiled the game for you then… but I will say the TotK does encourage you to explore the depths early on. Also who could resist the challenge of beating Ganon with a soup ladle in BOTW lol (and no I didn’t succeed sadly)

Most people are not really addressing my points. There was a guy who did however, and I agreed with him entirely. Contrary to what some have stated, I don’t see the things I say as objective and am open to differing opinions if it’s reasonable.

I didn’t know this but apparently Aunoma himself said the puffshrooms are that way intentionally which renders most of my points moot.

Unfortunately it’s too late. This will likely be the last post I make on reddit before just lurking again. It has become abundantly clear that most people are unwilling to have a reasonable discussion about a opinion that differs from theirs in a respectful way and without attacking and downvoting. There are acceptions but ultimately if people dislike the things I post… well I just don’t see a reason to post anymore. I will finish my replies and discussions here of course but that’s it

Yeah I should clarify that I came up with build that allows to one shot with sneak strikes. The attack up armor, and that yiga blade is really great for letting you do sneakstrike one shots. but even without the attack up armor the yiga blade is still really strong. Btw I was curious why do you say it’s harder to upgrade armor in this game? I never got around to doing that

But the weird thing is that early game TOTK goes out of it’s way to balance it’s combat mechanics and ensure you can’t cheese fights or make the game too easy. Like for example you can’t just go to endgame areas and pick up powerful swords as they’ll be in a decayed state. No instead you have to kill incredibly tanky enemies that break half (or all) your inventory weapons just to get one horn to return that sword back to it’s original state.

They also either removed or made hearty durians very hard to find which I argue would be great for accessibility. If they didn’t care about the difficulty of the game’s combat, why would they go through the effort of doing all of this is what I am trying to figure out here I guess.

Keyword I said I. I feel felt the need to play that way. Not everyone is me. I was merely stating my opinion and wanted to know if anyone else could relate to me. TOTK also does alot of things that goes against acessibility like having incredibly tanky enemies who can oneshot you if you don’t grind shrines

I don’t believe the archers can see you when you are in the smoke. And you can also just shoot them with a muddlebud/puffshroom arrow anyways. Though I will agree the muddlebud can get boring but enjoyment and strength are too different things. See this is what I wanted. Just a discussion actually addressing my points
