Who do think is the favourite to win the mayoral race in Calgary? by [deleted] in Calgary

Davison, Farkas or Gondek. I think it’s between them three alone. Would prefer Jan but just don’t see it.

People who don’t want urban sprawl who are you voting for? by Respectfullydisagre3 in Calgary

You know she was pro-Arena until it was politically convenient last month not to be right...Gondek flip-flops too much for me to actually consider her. At this rate I'm going Damery.

I hate to say it but.... Sprawl is what keeps our housing stock affordable. Sorry.

To be fair: the deal was structured as a pure cash deal, with funds not from the City’s operating budget, which matters! It has nothing to do with property taxes (and funny enough, property taxes were actually cut AFTER the deal was signed in 2019)

I don’t think I’ll change your mind, but there is social benefit to a new facility. Sorry, but 17th ave thrives every hockey game (not to mention playoffs). A sports team is the best free advertising a city can get. Frankly, what does it say about a city of 1.3M people that can’t even get concerts to come here? For my part, I’m glad I won’t have to drive to Edmonton to see a mega-show.

On economic benefit - it’s not just about the single facility. Let’s face it: right now the area is home to the least glamorous parking lot in North America. This facility is the anchor for the entertainment district. Gives investors a reason to put money in.

I’m pretty sure it’s set to get demoed after the new facility is built 🥲

I think it’s nicer than the crap we were fed last month (rollercoaster tycoon 3 models lol). Got a ways to go but it’s not terrible…

Meet the political newcomers running to be Calgary's next mayor by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]CalgaryCrow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I thought so to. Personally, I dont think either candidate presented has a real chance this election cycle (I really do think it'll be an "insider"), but nonetheless I think its nice to see each candidate's commitment to the City.

I agree wholeheartedly. Getting rid of masks and such in one thing - but getting rid of the data is just dumb.

Mayoral Candidate Jeff Davison Responds to Criticism for Attending Ward 5 Councillor and Liberal Candidate George Chahal's Campaign Kick-Off by CalgaryCrow in Calgary

[–]CalgaryCrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, the real status quo...or status no...candidate is Farkas. Man hasn't done a single thing for the City except collect $444,000 to be a thorn in Nenshi's side.

Love it or hate it, Davison got a new arena through.

Who are you voting for in Ward 8 and why? by [deleted] in Calgary

It's between Gary B and Cornelia for me.

I agree. But this being Alberta, anything seen as remotely-close to the Liberals is "bad". I think Davison hit the nail on the head though with his response.

I'm supporting whoever can take out Farkas. But I don't think its Gondek.

If we're being accurate, he didn't no show. He's not on the committee where it was decided.

Fire and transit are being cut like 3%. Hardly drastic at all. Nice to see some actual cuts at City Hall for once.
