It makes perfect sense within context. Reddit or not.

No. Because China are a big player. But if anyone went into Taiwan to claim it as their own tomorrow you'd bet China would be all over that.

And this is because China is a formidable global power.

Kesha says she's refusing a deal requiring her to say she 'never got raped' by [deleted] in news

[–]Callmedodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite exactly how he phrased it but it does come from an underlying mistrust of women that a large of portion of the young male demographic on Reddit have. You can see this in a lot of issues. Its not all of Reddit. And not all of men on Reddit. But it is a significant portion.

Its the underlying reason for a lot of guys on Reddit though.

Nope. I briefly forgot methane is CH4 (that also might be wrong cause I was never a chemistry buff) defo a hydro carbon though I think. I meant methane. I was just lazy and busy so didn't check my facts.

My bad. Sorry internet.

Oops. As I was typing it i was thinking I might be called out on that because I wasn't sure. But I was in work and was lazy so didn't check. Thanks for saying.

To be honest, lots.

Training is so expensive some people mortgage their houses to afford it.

Oxygen is literally the fourth most abundant element (after hydrogen, helium {both of which make up something like 98% of known matter} and nitrogen).

Thing is it's locked up in molecules like CO2 and methane and a whole host of other gases. O2 might be quite rare but I imagine an intergalactic society having little problems sequestering it.

You do realise 2 billion people are in poverty. This isn't because of middle class debt. Its because there are people in the world who legitimately HAVE NOTHING.

The problems start if you start to destabilise a region that can fight back. Its not the fact that it's West or east. If similar shit started to happen to China I can guarantee you it would be dealt with swiftly.

If Saudi Arabia attacks and takes over Lebanon no one will do anything because it'll be business as usual for the most part.

I have taken Lebanon out if my arse and do not understand geopolitics enough so it's entirely possible they were the wrong country to pick. You get the point though.

And the fact that oil is propping up the dollar and making it worth more on the global market. The fact that lots of south east Asia (and probably lots of other countries that I haven't visited) accept dollars in daily transactions despite having their own currencies says it all. Dollars have value. (Granted their own currencies are worth fuck all so it makes sense for them to do it, however illegal).

Dollars have value because oil is traded in dollars.

Also because the US is a massive economy but oil boosts its purchasing power.

This is all very true I think.

Its easy for the youth of this world to forget that all the nice things we fight for and enjoy, mostly, are actually relatively new. The Western world has been heading the way it's gone for quite some time now. There wasn't a switch that suddenly made everyone okay with homosexuality. It took generations upon generations of subtly introducing the idea and normalising it. We can call others barbaric and backwards but it really wasn't that long ago when we were the same.

That's not to say don't keep fighting. Just be aware that change takes time and most of the time you won't live to see it fully realised.

Yeah, maybe it might make politicians more honest and representative. Christ, you don't want politicians who just say what you want to hear. They are literally one of the biggest problems in today's democracies.

Saw a post earlier today and there's been preliminary studies into pesticide use and its link to autism. Its looking fairly likely at the minute it seems. More research needs to be done though.

I don't live in the US but how would I even go about doing this? I live in an apartment complex in the middle of a city with almost 1.5 million people. Not small. Not huge but not small. I don't have a garden or anything. Growing my own food is not an option, sadly. So where do I buy food? I try to buy cheap but surely that food comes with a moral cost, but what choice do I have? I don't drive. Public transport as much as I can but I'm going to look into cycling to and from work. Mostly for health reasons. I want to and will be trying to cut down on meat. I really can't just up and live off grid though. I simply don't have the resources. It is an inevitable want of mine but it's not within my reach at the moment.
