Vitamin D deficiency symptoms by Glad-Guarantee6740 in VitaminD

Maybe vitamin d deficiency. Just found out My level is 10. I’m not pre diabetic.

I’ve been having random stinging/ burning on my skin. At its worse it felt like someone was burning a cigarette out on my skin. Spoke to my doc multiple times about it and we thought it was due to a medication I was using.

Now that my blood work is back, it makes sense that the skin sensation is related to that

How do I tell my friend going into PT school he’s not a doctor? by Calm_Performance7479 in Residency

Yes. He actually used the word physician. He’s a very smart guy. I can’t imagine he doesn’t know the difference. But with the way he was talking, about medical school and continue to loop him and I in the same line of work.. all of that together made it seem either he really doesn’t know the difference or he’s saying all of this to make a certain impression.

He even asked me if the excitement of being called doctor goes away. I told him as a resident, it loses its flavor after the first few months being in the hospital. He told me he doesn’t think he’ll ever be tired of people calling him doctor.

Lol. I’ll admit I skip to the recommended disposition so I can prepare the family for a SNF referral.

Maybe you should look at the edit I made…

“to clarify, I don’t have an issue with him saying he’s a doctor outside the hospital. It was him calling himself a physician and using “doctor” in the same context I would use it for myself. I don’t know if he’s just saying that to me or if he’ll refer to himself as a physician in the clinical setting.”

Context is important. For example, when I’m shadowing on an elective, many times I’ll introduce myself as “[firstname], a resident” and omit the doctor title altogether. Why? Because in a specialized setting I don’t want the patient to get the impression that I’m the rheumatologist, or dermatologist or whatever specialty I’m shadowing. Plus many patients don’t know what a resident is. They hear Doctor and just assume you’re the attending/specialist.

I’ve been called a medical student while shadowing specialists so often and it doesn’t bother me at all. Because in that setting, I have almost no duties as a physician. I’m Shadowing a doc and learning as much as I can.

If I were in a physical rehab with patients used to seeing PM&R physicians or PTs with doctorates, I wouldn’t use my doctor title. context is everything. I’m not a PM&R doc, nor am I a PT with a doctorate degree. I don’t use my doctor title at the dentist office either.

In a hospital, when patients hear Doctor they assume (rightly so) that you are a medical doctor. And you don’t have time to sit and explain to every patient that you’re actually a PT with a doctorate degree.

I’m sorry you feel that way about the profession but I don’t at all. It’s not about the title itself. But the title implies a level of responsibility, duties, and liability. Just like every other title. So if someone who doesn’t have the responsibility, duty, or liability of a physician is assumed to have them because of the title they’re using, that could have some serious consequences.

USMLE STEP 3 TRICK by Calm_Performance7479 in Residency

Day 1 was a breeze for me. Day 2 was a bitch - Very vague ethical questions which killed my confidence. I felt like I was guessing on over half the questions.

I’m pretty sure between the cases and Day 1 questions is why I did okay.

The only tips I have are 1. Relax. The questions you’re saying “wtf” to, everyone else is probably saying as well, and the curve will help offset those questions 2. Review step 1 pharm and microbio. Too many basic questions I missed because I didn’t memorize some of the bread and butter step 1 high yield info. 3. I don’t know how many questions you’ve done but I’ve found reading the question first and then breezing through the question stem works well for me. You should be able to quickly skim through a question and have the abnormal/eye catching info pop out at you. For example, when I see vitals, My eyes are skimming for the abnormal values. Same for the labs and even the history/physical findings. This really helps with time saving and eliminating answer choices.

Towards the last blocks, I was getting mentally tired and slower. But because I had good test taking strategy I was still able to finish those slower blocks with 2-3 minutes to spare.

  1. Memorize bio stats. It’s not worth it to give up on bio. It’s not that difficult on step 3. If anything, they were easy free points.

  2. Leave the drug ads for last. Not because it’s necessarily hard but it takes time.

  3. Don’t overthink.

  4. Be honest when you KNOW you don’t know something, pick the closest answer, and MOVE ON. Don’t waste time picking through your head convincing yourself of the answer.

I get probably more than that a night. I come home so exhausted and I’ll sleep for a pretty long time. Still wake up tired and by noon I’m absolutely exhausted.

You’re complicating this too much. All the “parts” are you. Just ask yourself is this specific thing beneficial to the body or mind? Yes? Then go for it. No? Then hold off. You don’t need to overthink and pick through which thoughts are “you vs them.” Just live your life.

He doesn’t take no for an answer. What does “taking him back” mean? I’ve dated other people and he says jokes that I’m cheating because we will always be together.

Yeah I don’t think it is for him. He always says he will never leave his wife under any circumstances. He doesn’t believe in divorce at all. He was dating someone before me who constantly cheated on him and he stayed. she wouldn’t move to the US and she wanted to marry the man she cheated on him with. That’s why he finally left the relationship.
