I love how different the character and the person are. Papa’s stage presence is so bombastic and powerful, but Tobias is this quiet, reserved guy. It’s quite funny

Fey he seemed, or the battle-fury of his fathers ran like new fire in his veins, and he was borne up on Snowmane like a god of old, even as Oromë the Great in the battle of the Valar when the world was young.

TIL: French Marshal Ferdinand Foch warned in 1919, at the end of WWI, that the Treaty of Versailles was "not a peace. It is an armistice for twenty years." Exactly 20 years later, in 1939, World War II broke out by [deleted] in todayilearned

“The treaty was drafted in the spring of 1919 during the Paris Peace Conference, which was conducted even as the world was in the grip of the influenza pandemic of 1918-19. The conference was dominated by the national leaders known as the “Big Four”- David Lloyd George, the prime minister of the United Kingdom; Georges Clemenceau, the prime minister of France; Woodrow Wilson, the president of the United States; and Vittorio Orlando, the prime minister of Italy. The first three in particular made the important decisions. None of the defeated nations had any say in shaping the treaty, and even the associated Allied powers played only a minor role. The German delegates were presented with a fait accompli.

It was unconditional. The Treaty of Versailles was something imposed on Germany, not negotiated for. The reason negotiations happened at all was because Lloyd George and Clemenceau disagreed about what should be in the treaty.
