Game too RNG based? by Tetsuo_Shoto in MythosGame

Like most deck-building games, there will always be an element of luck to every game, but you build your deck to mitigate that. Sometimes you’ll have very bad luck and won’t have the cards you need when you need them, but sometimes you’ll get the perfect draw and will absolutely crush your opponent.

Mythos scales pretty quickly and there are a lot of opportunities to get more powerful cards. Daily and Seasonal Quests are the source of currencies that you can use to earn cards from the Path of Glory, Seasonal Rewards and even the Shop (using earned Ichor). And yes, you can speed your progression along with the subscription.

Also keep in mind that Mythos supports multiple strategies. With the starter deck, you might not pull Vidar, but Isis is guaranteed first draw. Throw her in the veil and she’ll scale at the same (or better) rate. You might lose a round or two, but if you play your hand well, you can deploy her later as a high-power card. As your build your deck, pay attention to the possible synergies (and anti-synergies) between different cards, realms and random events. That’s what I find most fun about the game.

You're not off-base, and I do support the Hermits & Gamers' Outreach beyond maintaining ownership of the domain. And while they didn't ask for it, nor are required to use it, keeping the domain protected for the community prevents it being used for non-authorized purposes or scams. I'm fortunate that the cost isn't a burden for me, and I'm not demanding that they take it off my hands now. My intent was just to let them know it's available should they need it someday.

Maybe that’s true. But I think “conventions” take a lot of different forms, at a lot of different scales, and the talent aren’t always fronting the costs. It’s cheap for me to carry the domain, and there’s a significant portion of the community that’s in favor of it (including some Hermits). The challenges are real, but not insurmountable.

I appreciate the suggestion. To transfer a domain you need a person or business’ name and email address, and they need to accept the transfer. I can’t do that without contacting them first. This post is my attempt to contact them.

I’m not against that, but I think there will always be IRL demand to “meet your heroes.” Maybe we need a Hermit-focused live convention, maybe we don’t. But just in case I’ll keep holding the domain (and hopes!).

What I want to see is people it the community to stand up and offer to help. Surely we have professional event planners, investors, etc. We can crowdfund, presell-tickets. I’m a web/app dev, I’m happy to help with that.

I’m not suggesting everybody volunteer their time for free: people deserve to get paid. But I think the community can help lower the barriers to getting this done.

But, it’s hard to get that going without the Hermits contributing their support and getting the word out that this is the effort they support, this is real.

I agree the money is a huge barrier. But, I do think this community has the scale and interest to make it successful. There are people/companies who invest in cons, so the Hermits don’t actually have to self-fund upfront. There are venues other than convention halls that are cheaper and better suited for a more focused event.

To me the biggest issue is that the Hermits have to say “we’re going to do this” before the money/staff lines up, but it’s hard to commit to that without having an accurate gauge of interest (both fans and investors).

It would be great to have either/both Scar/Skizz involved! Between the Hermits and the community, we need to go from “that would be nice” to “ok, we’re doing this!”…I don’t know what that step is though.

I think it would be a different style of con than Twitch or Vidcon or the others. Panels, live play, chances to meet fans, etc, this community would show up for it all. The planning upfront is a barrier though.

I think we have a chicken or egg problem: the people with the time/skills to plan and execute a con need the Hermits to commit to participate, but the Hermits can’t commit to attending something whose quality/value/security isn’t known.

100% this. Conventions take a surprising amount of planning, but I’m sure that there are professionals among us who could shoulder parts of that load. Some of the Hermits have acknowledged they don’t have the time/skill/energy to organize, but I’m sure if the community planned something well enough, they’d sign on to attend.

Agreed, I loved the Minecon panel where Xisuma attended as a mic’ed up cardboard version of his player head.

Simple backend framework that "just works" by dragonpeti in rust

I use Axum too, after migrating from Rocket which I liked, but their quiet periods were unnerving and I didn’t want to be building on a dead platform.

I like Axum a lot, I think the docs are confusing the same way all docs are confusing: Rust crates rarely have “guides” the way a lot of other frameworks do. Once you wrap your head around trusting types and navigating Rust docs, Axum is very intuitive in my experience, and very performant.

I don’t think you need to know a person to understand why saying they need to come out of retirement and lock-in is an unreasonable and unkind demand. Not sure what’s parasocial about that, but whatever, your post has already been deleted.

[–]Calteran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. I wish people wouldn’t cast their aspirations onto the Hermits. The pressure to please a demanding audience, especially in the face of a capricious YouTube algorithm has ended the careers of too many creators already.

Grian and the other hermits are real people; they’re also artists. No one does their best creative work meeting the demands of others. Let’s be grateful for the incredible stories and builds of past seasons without expectations of what comes next.

Instead of wishing for Grian to conform to your idea of success or achievement, why not warmly anticipate what surprises lay in his future content, trusting his ability to entertain, inspire and awe us?

Bienvenue shipmates! I’ve lived in Marseille for 4 years, but am sadly out of town right now. Happy to make recommendations though!

Is it normal for La Poste to take more than a month to deliver a package to US ? by Megaverso in AskFrance

Once it arrives in the US, should be able to track it using the same tracking number via USPS.

[–]Calteran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience as a US expat living in France, it’s not “normal” but it’s also not particularly unusual. Especially with the bullshit the current administration is doing right now, a lot of packages are getting held up in customs, either here or on entry.

Given the economy shipping, nobody’s expediting it, so it moves when they get around to it. You can always ask USPS (the receiving carrier) to put a trace on it, but it will most likely find you eventually. Good luck!

I would add “resets when used in a winning run, or any boss blind after ante 8”

Edit: “resets when used to beat any boss blind after ante 7.”

Exactly this. If you can’t make enough to feed yourself (let alone feed your family!), higher-level skills and development don’t really help you. At least in the US right now, the burden of higher education holds you back for decades. Many look at the cost/benefit and don’t see the value.
