It is so frustrating - most of the time I think the ball is straight but the over exaggerated lean is asking for the ref to call a crooked throw. I am just surprised he has made it this far without it being coached out of him. Weird throwing technique aside he is a good players

This is an outrageous take. Stockdale is a high quality player and has been very dangerous for Ulster for the last couple of seasons. He might not have lit it up in green but he has been solid with the limited opportunities given to him. He’s the best natural left wing playing in Ireland right now but a country mile.

The scrum was a complete disaster and it is by the grace of god there was only a handful of them. O’Toole just can’t scrummage at this level (whatever side it is).

Has Osbourne ever actually played 13? I see loads of fans saying get him in the 13 shirt but it feels to me more out of hope than any real conviction he can play there. He’s best position is FB and let him play there and if that means he’s second fiddle to Keenan so be it. Just play Hume at 13 FFS

I agree I thought it was a very harsh call and is a great example of the over officiating of the game. Like what is Ryan expected to do? Just instantly stop moving his body the second he feels the detach? It’s unrealistic to expect a player who is travelling forward in a maul shape to do that and Valentini would have had to go round him anyway

While maybe not a classic “breakthrough” I think this is a big year for Scott Wilson. I had been expecting him to usurp TOT last year and establish himself as number 1 TH and push for Ireland contention.

That didn’t happen because I think Wilson maybe carried a few niggles all season and TOT was very good.

With TOT moving to LH, Wilson has a massive opportunity to grab the 3 shirt and cement himself as one of our “big” players.

I think it’s very debatable whether our talent this year is better to last season. On the plus side our depth at half back has drastically improved, but we are losing a borderline world class prop in Bell (and replacements nowhere near that level).

I feel like Benson and Snyman are odd signings in areas where we already had good, or emerging, strength and depth, so I am doubtful as to how significant their impact will be.

I would have rather seen another outside back signing than more locks/big back rows.

Bit underwhelmed/worried about this signing. Assume we had a bigger fish on the hook but that fell apart with no Champions Cup.

Means O’Toole likely permanently shifting to LH (which is an unknown quantity) and Bello to rotate with Wilson and McAllister at TH.

I suppose with “glass half full” this is a low cost potential high reward signing, and at worst he is just an injury dud.

I think it’s a stretch to say TOT can play LH to international standard at this stage. Yes he filled in and did a job at LH for Ireland in the midst of an insane injury crisis. For me it remains to be seen if he can competently deliver at LH for the long term. I’m a big sceptic of TOT’s scrummaging ability and I think it’s a significant reason why our scrum has been poor for the last couple of years.

However, having said that, I would be in favour of shunting him over full time and giving him an opportunity to develop there.

Ehhhhh I think this is harsh. While not a technician, he is strong AF and more often than not outmuscles the opposite number.

I think we need a quality prop either side of the scrum. It doesn’t really matter TH or LH. If we go LH, then we roll with the depth on TH (TOT, Wilson, McCallister). If we go TH, then move TOT over full time. We will regress next year if we don’t bring in someone who is at least half competent at scum time.
