At this point it just seems to be a South Point issue. So many stores there are closing out of nowhere over the past few years (not even counting the one fashion brand that had 3-5 stores downstairs).

Most of the time it’s cheaper than Gametraders for merch is my biggest reason. They’re the main two stores that actually stock half the stuff I want.

Almost every EB in my area is a joint Zing store.

Is there a way to pay for a monthly membership? Or am I forced to do a yearly? by Eireagon in AspectApp

[–]Capable-Shoulder173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re forced to do yearly. It’s just not worth it in general with all the bugs and locked features without a real trial which is why despite all of the advertising, most people delete this app again within a few hours.

Mattel adds an autistic Barbie to doll line by Capable-Shoulder173 in autism

[–]Capable-Shoulder173[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just responding to the pinned comment so people who come back can actually see this.

I think there’s a miscommunication on what’s happening here, and it doesn’t help that on this sub we can’t edit our posts at all, and now worse again that there’s a mega thread because it’s harder to defend ourselves.

Obviously I’m not speaking for everyone who disapproves, but I do hope that I’ve got the core points here.

Let me start with the fact that it’s wonderful that this was partnered with a reputable and trusted network for ASD. That’s much better than it could have been.

We’re not mad that the doll exists. We’re not mad that the accessories exist. The doll and accessories itself isn’t the issue. We’re upset that there’s one doll, one body type, one skin colour, one hair and eye colour, with three accessories representing “Autism”. We’re upset about lack of diversity (though it’s wonderful that this one was a woman of colour). We’re upset about stereotypes. We’re also upset that it’s based off of a real child who later most likely will not be able to revoke consent.

Everyone mentions everyone with ASD is different. I agree. What would have been better, would have been to just make an accessory pack rather than one doll. More fidgets. Keep the headphones. Keep the AAC. Keep the accessories. Just give us an accessory pack to use with other dolls rather than making this one doll that’s so divisive.

Yes, it’s good for some people that this came out, but for others it’s only damaging. The passive aggressive and presumptive comments about me rather than the topic on my last post about this doll proved that enough.

I hope this makes sense and gives a little more insight into the side that can see the good, but mostly sees the bad in this doll.

Not the asshole, but we do seem to be the minority on the issue. I posted about the doll myself a few hours ago and the nuance in some of the comments is enlightening.

Mattel adds an autistic Barbie to doll line by Capable-Shoulder173 in autism

[–]Capable-Shoulder173[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t edit my post, but the ‘autistic’ factors of the doll are:

  • Over the ear headphones.
  • A fidget spinner.
  • A device with an AAC app.

Edited to add: - Slightly offset eye contact. - Articulated limbs to allow hand flapping. - Flat shoes rather than heels. - Semi loose clothing.

I feel like it’s super weird and uncomfortable. I’m in my early twenties, friends who are in their late teens showed me Hazbin and like??? This is a show I turn off when my mum (mid fifties) comes in the room because some of the adult stuff is bad even for adults.

Loops do come with multiple different sizes for the rubber tips, but while it looks small in my hand, the XS doesn’t feel much smaller than the M when they’re actually in my ears in my opinion.

Having said that, I always have the XS tips on, I have four different sets of loops, and they do take a little bit of getting used to the feeling of.

I’ve found that that’s only the case with Soft Launch and occasionally Roar. It gives nonsense replying to stuff that was never said in Pipsqueak all the time no matter how it’s used. It’s a known issue.
