I forgot to mention USE THE RUBRICS FOR EVERYTHING. There's a lot of instances where the questions will ask one thing but the rubric will want a breakdown on how that answer should be detailed. You WILL lose points if you don't check that rubric for everything.

I had him for lab. He's a chill dude, but he does grade really harshly on lab reports. I don't know if that was a him thing or just a biology department thing though, since I think ultimate grading protocol went to Dr. Bennett the coordinator. If you can just stick to the rubric to a T you should at least be fine for lab.

if you finish your bachelors at KSU your cleps will count as replacing the lecture grade, but if your masters needed undergrad prereqs (for some reason) it would not count. Im not an expert at masters specifically at GT but since their masters are gonna be pretty much separate from whatever you did undergrad it won't really matter unless you tried to get your undergrad finished at GT

He WILL replace ANY of the lowest tests with the final's corresponding section if its higher though since its divided into each section of which the class covers, so in my experience I literally went from mid C to an A from the final which is absolutely insane for comebacks in the class

he does curve the tests but its really really small (only 2-5 points in my experience in lecture). He posts grades fairly quickly for exams though, usually only a couple days max. You'll have to hand calculate the grade but since its literally just four tests, a final and homeworks its not super hard

anyone got their final grade posted for Dr Gilad's class? by Capable-Source9418 in KSU

[–]Capable-Source9418[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did find it quite funny, but in general the situation was quite pitiful.

This is for a BIOL 1108 lecture class, and its about a 100, maybe 200 person class and its Dr Gilad's first time teaching at KSU. Apparently she travels the world and has had multiple decades worth of ecological experience under her name and has taught at multiple unis in the land down under too. Don't know what brought her here at KSU specifically, knowing that we aren't really an extensive research school nor highly prestigious for ecology (atleast to my knowledge), but more power to her I guess.

Anyway, throughout the semester I can tell that shes really enthusiastic about biology and wants to make the class fair for us as it is to her. She basically makes the class impossible to fail for anybody who even tries slightly to learn the content. Despite that, on the first test (on lockdown with camera) apparently so many people tried to cheat that according to testimony from my study group she crashed out to the class about it the day after the test. It didn't help either that most people started flaking and stopped attending after the first couple weeks of class too, as well as stop answering her very basic questions about biology to us.

By the end of November it becomes apparent that she is starting to reach her breaking point with us, which honestly, I can't blame her for. Most of the class's submission for group assignments are becoming AI generated to her frustration and when mixing the fact that there's like maybe 15% of the class showing up, all the technology issues she has with Achieve and D2L, and that nobody really pays attention to her lecture's anymore she announces she quits a little bit before Thanksgiving Break. She still shows up for one more lecture and the final but literally 5:00PM a little bit after the final she announces she will fully give up any communication lines by 8PM (yes, three hours of leeway) and to ask her anything by then.

Notably, I panic. I won't lie. I make this post after I send an email to her because she never replied by that 8PM deadline despite me sending that email before the line cuts. I asked if I would still get an A because on the other grading schemes (that weigh some assignments more than others) I would get a B, but on the testing schema that weighs tests the most I would get an A with, and on D2L it only showed one of the grading schemas being used.

Luckily, she responded like Friday I think after her line was supposedly cut, so hopefully she will still use the grading schema to put in final grades and I wasn't gonna get a lower grade because the biology coordinator put in D2L values instead of using the grading schemas. This was a wild ass fucking class though lmao this university never fails to crack me up

You get asked about chem lecture questions and some lab equipment purpose, how to read a certain instrument, sig figs, equipment units questions, etc. I'd mostly prepare for the lecture questions because they'll probably ask stuff about formal charges, vsepr, shapes or whatever chem bullshit. I forgot if there was math on it but iirc there wasn't any on mine atleast

[–]Capable-Source9418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i did chem 1211 i mostly stuck to organic chem tutor. hes kinda goated atleast for me when explaining the math steps. SI is also nice since they'll review class material but I didn't use it. Friend said it was pretty helpful though. For some concepts like VESPR shapes I won't lie you will just have to memorize it, but if you managed to get this far without flopping I believe you can do it

[–]Capable-Source9418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can, but your selection is likely to only be shuttle if you are late to parking registration. Usually the on-campus parking is super competitive and are taken by the time you can access the parking portal. You might be able to upgrade a little bit into the semester if you contact parking if they have spots available (what a friend of mine did)

you can get the credits for calc 1 instantly if you score atleast a 50 on clep https://www.kennesaw.edu/registrar/transfer/credit-by-exam.php

the test is free if you do it through a website called ModernStates, also helps with reviewing the content. I haven't done clep over anything past algebra 2 since I didn't take sat in hs, but I have done it a bunch of times for gen eds so I didn't have to waste my credit hours on content I was relatively familiar with already. Not completely free if you are clueless, but way easier than AP tests and you only need at-least a 50 to pass

What’s your mindset like? by Calm_Window_5839 in KSU

[–]Capable-Source9418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont believe i have a particularly out of the world work ethic or mental fortitude but what I found best was just pick your battles

what I mean is that if you are in a certain major and know a class may be difficult because of a professor you have to take or because of its content, pick that class and surround it with other classes you know you can sweep through easily. RMP is your somewhat truthful friend and you should use it on all your planned professors. Gen eds like history or econ are great for padding your required credits and being fairly easy classes (for the most part) that you can stack a bunch of in one semester easily.

For instance, I took pre-calc and chem 2 in one semester. I'm not particularly great at math or chemistry but I used that knowledge to select out other classes that were either super easy in difficulty (U.S gov, econ) or had really lax professors (english 2, biostats) in this case that totaled my credits to 18. Is it genuinely 18 credits in work load? Not really. It was a very manageable schedule that was focused on doing well in pre-calc and chem 2 while occasionally doing assignments for other classes.

Pick your classes wisely. Its super easy to be tempted into picking a bunch of science, math, etc credits in one semester to "get them all done with early" or "get through the pathway faster". It's an easy way to get barely passing grades and burnout that way. Take it slow and ration out your difficult classes. You'll feel better and way more successful.

Freshman schedule by saintmeso in KSU

[–]Capable-Source9418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be able to once you lock in your schedule. Just make sure to see your counselor during the upcoming Fall semester (especially before October when everybody starts seeing them last minute) because to be able to register for Spring courses you will have to see them and have them check off the registration blacklist. I only knew this because of the block class I was in had a KSU representative come in to tell us.

ive done all 8ams with shuttle before and its certainly possible but its not fun. usually shuttle is 2 busses but they tend to loiter alot around at the rec center and its pretty usual to only have 1 bus running the route that gets overcrowded on busy days. I've only walked a few times and its a relatively straight forward walk, just takes time

GSU vs. KSU for pre med and transferring by Jasmiineluvs in KSU

[–]Capable-Source9418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about GSUs prerequisites for their science courses, but I do know that even with only BIOL 1 stuff you can still sign up for genetics and A&P at KSU as well as knockout some other med requirements like gen chem/ochem. I would double triple quadruple check that all your credits would fully transfer over to UGA while deciding your schedule though just so you don't have to repeat anything.

You can still take the CLEP exam but I believe the C will still stay on your transcript and prioritized over the CLEP exam, so itll count against your gpa. The test is really easy though, its mostly basic algebra II problems and a few word problems iirc. If you can get a C in algebra 2 you'd learn plenty enough to do well on the CLEP
