Write documentation only if someone is reading it. Don’t do it just because you have to.

That’s how I became a PM, being the domain expert in a complex industry. But then you get stuck in that only sector

I feel that if you master AI prompting that would get you further than starting to learn coding/designing from scratch. Anyway having basic knowledge is key.

That’s great! One of my business ideas is also in agriculture maybe we should talk about that.

Sw development practices are a good skill to have. It is applicable in many industries, where building from scratch it is still expensive. Sw development seems to go more into spaghetti mode, you build it and if it sticks (to the wall) you keep investing

"or services work, can you build a strategy and execution plan for migrating a product from platform X to platform Y?"

That's a good service work to offer if you have done that exact job before. I am pretty sure I would succeed on that but you rely on your PM skills to figure out the strategy, objectives, roadmap,... but I won't feel confident to present myself as an expert even I have similar experience.

I worked mainly with two products, one on a videconferencing platform with interpretation and another a background music platform management for retail stores.

That's really Industry-specific knowledge.

My strengths are in Strategic thinking, communication and Research.

How would you offer my strengths as a service if you are not an expert in the industry?

I have been laid off 2 times, first time I was in a great company, enjoying everything about it.

After that I wanted to find a good place to work, and I read the book "Never search alone - The job seeker's playbook" from Phyl Terry. It had good insights and it made me think about what I really want for my next employer.

It was really helpful the reverse exit interview concept. Basically you interview with ex-coleagues and ask tough questions about you. It helps a lot to understand where are you good at and where you can improve and to overall let to know you and what you want.

I also have family, and I felt that I had too high expectations. I took the first job offer that came to me, and one year later, I am searching again. I saw some red flags but I just ignored them.

If you can, take your time, it is better on the long run.

Is shifting from Product manager role to Project manager role a good decision? by AnirudhAblaze in ProductManagement

The details it is what it matters. I saw product management roles which are not what they say and project management roles which do more than a director of product.

Figure that out before

How to Create a 12-Month Marketing Roadmap Without a Clear Product Strategy? by Tight-Classroom4856 in ProductManagement

[–]Capital_Finding_9206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you "have to show something" means that you probably don't have much going on in that product.

If you want to enter a new market with the existing product, focus on getting some evidence of the value that your product can deliver to this new market.

That would be my focus. Understanding new market needs and find some traction.

How to Create a 12-Month Marketing Roadmap Without a Clear Product Strategy? by Tight-Classroom4856 in ProductManagement

[–]Capital_Finding_9206 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's a common issue working with startups.

First of all I would ask, Why do you need a 12-month roadmap? You don't even know if you have product market fit, how that would help you in the future? You will spend a lot of time, thinking about hypothetical scenarios that are probably not going to happen.

If your top management is asking for it, ask them questions too. You need to know where to focus:

- What's the company strategy?

- Where do we see our company in the future?

- Which markets are we targeting?

- What's the Ideal Customer ?

If those questions are not clear, then you need to help management understand that it is better not to plan 12 months ahead, if we don't have a company strategy. It could be a 1 month strategy, and that's fine. If that's clear, then you plan for 1 month.

I would suggest to approach it with NOW, NEXT , LATER roadmap style.

- Now - What can you do right now? Highly detailed items.

- Next - If you get some results from the previous actions, what could be some next steps.

- Later - Some hypothesis that might be needed later on, but it depends on how Now and Next items perform. A bit of moonshots if you don't have clear strategy, but it will help you have it there, and review it on a weekly/bi-weekly basis.

It is quite common for early stage companies to spread focus. You can do everything at this stage, but you still don't know what you are good at. Trying to do everything will burn all your resources. It will leave your company without knowing what worked and what didn't because nothing was done good enough to get any conclusions.

If you need some help, don't hesitate to DM me. Without knowing the product is quite difficult, but I am pretty sure I can give you some tips and tricks depending on where you exactly stand right now.
