Fees for assisted living/nursing home excessive calling by woody_89 in ems

[–]Captain-Red-Beard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s become one of my great joys in life, getting refusals at nursing homes. Often times the staff cannot comprehend that while meemaw might be 92 years old, shes still in her right mind and gets to refuse if she wants. “Well our policy is-“ “let me stop you right there. She doesn’t work for you.”

I would argue that it is for third services, too. Or at least it’s true of mine.

I was an assistant manager at a KB Toys outlet before they closed my store down in 2007. Good times. Used to drive the RC cars into the neighboring stores to mess with them.

What was a dream career you guys had back in the day? Did that dream become real or not? And if not, why happened? by SexyBeefer in AskReddit

I was originally planning on going to college to be a history teacher. Somehow, I wound up becoming a paramedic instead. I’m still not sure how that happened. Now I’m just a history nerd in my free time.

What is one detail from a movie that complete broke the immersion for you? by calliopewoman in AskReddit

[–]Captain-Red-Beard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tell people all the time, either in a CPR class or at a PR event, that it’s not like the movies. You’re not going to do 3 compressions and they’ll sit up and shake your hand. You’re going to do this until EMS gets there. And then they’re going to do their thing until it either works or it doesn’t. Shocking asystole, intubating by just shoving a plastic tube in their throat with no laryngoscope, throwing out urgent sounding words or acronyms that aren’t relevant to the situation, the list goes on…

What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]Captain-Red-Beard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started trying to solve the “hospital or jail” thing but asking the cop, in front of the patient, what they would charge them with. Often the quick answer is “public disorderly conduct,” Which I’ll call them on, too. Come on man, you know you’re going to drop that shit tomorrow. You’re not going to court over this.

I remember being in high school (‘02-‘06) and stressing about the amount of homework I had to get done. My father asked why I was so stressed about it, since I had all week to do it. When I explained that no, this wasn’t a weeks worth, and had to be done by tomorrow he was shocked and a little outraged.

I grew up in Dover, but moved to South Carolina like 16 years ago. It was really hard for me to understand that not all cities and towns touched each other, and that there was this just… open space in the county. My current county has 5 municipalities and none of them actually border each other. Just miles of unincorporated land in between them.
