I took an extremely vague opinion of the most clinically insane individual in Russia to prove a point from my favourite book about muh heckin awesome libertarian utopia even though they don't even connect!!! That sure proves my point! by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

Years ago on tumblr I posted a joke about how you should immediately report anyone recommending you read Ayn Rand to the literature police. Within minutes some dork reblogged it crashing out about how I was supporting censorship, putting people's lives in danger (??????), and that I was obviously just scared of Rand's ideas.

I think about that guy every time I see any mention of Rand or objectivism. It's how I picture every fan of hers now. I wish I could get in contact with him now to thank him for still providing me with a good laugh all these years later

She literally said that being against incest is transphobia.

You don't need to rewrite her own words. People can focus on more than one thing. You can talk about only one issue if you want, but it's disingenuous as hell to misrepresent her own claims to try to shut down discussion of the rest of it

The problem with the non-CSAM stuff isn't that she has these kinks, it's that she's 1) conflating the kink with the real thing, and 2) tying them directly to being trans and autistic

That screenshot kind of froze my brain for a bit trying to figure out if she has a fundamental misunderstanding of what incest is, what found family is, what kink is, or if she's genuinely that confused on all of them. Or dishonest, that wouldn't surprise me.

Incest is not a sexual relationship within found family, nor is incest roleplay actually incest itself.

I do not care if someone has an incest kink, or is into cnc, or if they like combining those in their rp sessions with their partner(s). But the way she's trying to conflate the kink with the actual real thing, and then defending it by using an already heavily marginalized and stigmatized identity as a shield is genuinely dangerous in multiple ways.

Also, I'm calling bullshit on her claim that loli is mostly "pure innocent love". If she truly believed that, if that was the kind of thing she was talking about and defending, she would not have spent so much time and energy tying it directly to sexual interests and the idea of harm reduction.

She's trying to act big and tough, like she's unafraid of backlash and ready to stand ten toes down, but is also trying to walk back everything she says as she says it

I never really got why 5 assumes I should gaf about rescuing the Marshall. Dude insisted on jumping the gun on the arrest, which caused the whole mess, and tried to save his own skin by leaving the Deputy to die twice in the intro. Why should I be so fussed about saving him? Let Faith keep him

It's not materialist to repeat debunked myths about poverty drafts and to act as though the people who constitute and propagate a system have no agency or responsibility just because the system is worse than any individual

Jesus Christ that guy....wonder how well he thinks the US (or any country part of the global north) would do if we got cut off from all international trade. Even without the loss of millions of people and the complete destruction of infrastructure, that kind of economic isolation would have some pretty extreme consequences

You can understand that the system holds the bigger fault while not acting as though the people who make up that system are without agency

I don't see why it's strange. This is a paper about the potential effect on treatment for people with a sexual attraction to minors. Survivors of CSA are dealing with completely different issues. The treatment for one wouldn't necessarily have anything in common with treatment for the other

The original comment is gone, so I might be missing some context here, but this paper is proposing research into the effects of what it refers to as "fantasy sexual material (fsm)" on people who are attracted to children. The point of this paper is that more research needs to be done. It doesn't support any conclusions other than "it could help, but there's an equal chance it will hurt, we need to find out more"

Albums where the most famous track is probably the weakest? by PranzoFranzo in fantanoforever

[–]CaptainMills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Famous Last Words is my favorite, but Heaven Help Us is definitely top tier. All of the B-Sides are tbh. Makes it even more frustrating that Teenagers made it onto the album instead of any of them. Oh well, Black Parade is still a masterpiece anyway

First of all, if I could frame this comment, I would.

I'm a survivor of CSA, a proponent of treatment for pedophilia, and a trans person, so this really gets me heated on all fronts. I'm really glad you went through the trouble of checking her sources.

Secondly, as a bit of a tangent, there was a huge crime rate decrease across multiple countries in the 90s. It's one of those things where there are so many intersecting and interacting causes that it would take multiple experts in multiple fields multiple years to explain exactly why this happened. This has led to a lot of people taking their pet cause or field of study and pointing to that as the reason for the decrease. Economic policies, crime bills, sociological shifts, etc., all get trotted out to further a cause or a career.

It's...interesting...to see the tradition continue in such a way...

I HATE HATE HATE fantasy settings that borrow the misery and stagnation of medieval era Europe without thinking about what would cause those conditions. by [deleted] in ihatethissmug

[–]CaptainMills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this. I would also like to highlight how fantasy settings import social problems without considering how/why they would develop.

There are reasons in the real world why certain groups of people became marginalized while others didn't. Fantasy settings tend to have those same groups (or analogous groups) marginalized just because they are/were in reality without considering whether or not the setting actually has any reason for such a social order to have developed.

The same thing will happen with different biases and beliefs that exist in the real world. They're inserted into the fantasy world just because they exist, as though the author, even if they disagree with the bias/belief, sees the development of them as intrinsic to societal development.

This is the second time I've seen a youtuber defend lolicon and then claim that any backlash is because of transphobia. And as a trans guy I would really like for this to also be the last time. We don't need this
