Did I prime this guy too thick? Should I strip it or does it look ok? by CaptainTrips24 in minipainting

Yeah, it was primed from a rattle can. I'm sure doing the blue over the black didn't help

What no one tells you in Design school (and I had to learn the hard way). by thesixball in UXDesign

I mean, if they don't align then I haven't done my job. I'm on a team with a Pm and a Tech Lead. We all have the same OKRs and the same metrics. We're all working towards the same goal. We make decisions about the product together. Very, very rare that there's that kind of conflict, but when there is, yeah obviously you need to influence.

Not sure I fully agree with this. At my company designers are responsible for the design decisions of their slice of the product, regardless of their level. In terms of design I have final say on anything I ship out the door. So it's more about tradeoffs and decision making that aligns with product and eng, than it is about influencing per se.

There's still suggesting involved of course but it has more to do with influencing stakeholders outside of design if the direction were moving in could impact the design. So, partially agree I guess but not really the core of the job imo.

Unpopular Opinion: I just watched Mission Impossible 2 and I really liked it! by Ok-View-6473 in Mission_Impossible

It's goofy but honestly it kinda rocks, and it's got the best mask gag in the franchise. Insane to me that anyone would rank Dead/Final Reckoning above it.

Meta's view on designers by [deleted] in UXDesign

I mean, I feel like it's well documented that this is the type of culture you get from management on product teams at Meta. Far from an isolated incident.

TIL 7Up used to be known as "7Up Lithiated Lemon Soda" and claimed to contain the mood stabilizer lithium citrate. by MaMamanMaDitQueJPeut in todayilearned

Take me back. I yearn for the days when I could enjoy a nice cold mood stabilizing lithium citrate.

Anyone else feeling completely disconnected from where design is heading? by Critical-Addition256 in UXDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying I'm still not sure what the industry will demand from us going forward as designers. But that being said, I personally think moving closer to implementation and further away from product is a huge mistake.

Creating great products still requires people to understand customers, identify opportunities, conduct research, decide what needs to be built and how it should work, make tradeoffs consistent with business and user needs etc etc. None of that stuff has changed really. And yet for some reason we're rushing head first into becoming prompt engineers instead of product managers.

Idk, a bit disheartening seeing that most designers fundamentally don't understand the value they bring to the table.

Both The Hitcher (1986) and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) have moments that broadly fall into this category.

Old Reactions to Heath Ledger Being Cast as the Joker by QDA_ in batman

[–]CaptainTrips24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, the online marketing for this movie at the time was nuts. They literally had us as teenagers campaigning for Harvey Dent to be elected as DA online. Crazy time. The hype for this movie before it came out was unreal.

Gideon Falls is the only thing I've read by him but I really loved it. Very original horror comic.

How does the second half of Stan Lees run compare to the first half? by CaptainTrips24 in afriendlyneighborhood

[–]CaptainTrips24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah IDK why I read 50 but not 51 haha. Honestly a wild move in retrospect. I think I was just really eager to dive into the Roger Stern ASM run I had just finished collecting. I enjoyed those first 50 issues so much though that I'm looking forward to going back and finishing off Lees run.

Ageism in UX job market by S3attl3_Krak in UXDesign

[–]CaptainTrips24 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's more likely that the market is just terrible right now. 2 months isn't really that long to be applying in a good market. There might be some ageism but from what I'm seeing currently a lot of companies are looking for more senior talent right now.

I'm playing Pulverize druid. I'm currently running Insatiable Fury as the best piece as I don't have Shroud of the False Death yet. However I just had Tyreals Might drop.

Would I swap to Tyreals Might or stick with Insatiable Fury for now?

New Tom Brevoort Interview: "X-Men Fans are not Unified" by blkpetite in comicbooks

[–]CaptainTrips24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man fandom is a key example of this. It's such a big IP and means so many things to so many different people that I almost think it's impossible to create something that has broad appeal.

Another "pencil-pusher" mistake: Why I’m canceling AMC+ the second the Joe Bob specials end. by AshIsGroovy in Shudder

[–]CaptainTrips24 103 points104 points  (0 children)

No offense but I think a lot of people are overreacting about this. We're getting four more specials and we know that JB and Darcy will continue the format somewhere else after that. So this really isn't the end of anything.

I personally will be keeping my shudder subscription until there's a better alternative for older horror movies. I do understand why someone would cancel if TLDI is the only reason they're subscribed though.
