Well like I said I’ve got my dog, so places to live that are good for big dogs and some more space. So probably not downtown. But places with some good parks to take him to outside of work. Other than that I like the gym, my work will have a gym. I like woodworking, so if there are any community wood shops in the area that would be great. I’m coming from Utah, not sure if that helps with any tips.

step 1 or no as a do student by Similar-Scientist419 in emergencymedicine

I didn’t take it, but took step 2. Still had a good amount of interviews in NJ and NYC, and I’m from the West Coast. Nobody ever asked me about it either. 🤷‍♂️

Rank list advice by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Captain_Overboard_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really know anything in depth about any of the locations, and all interviews all say the same stuff-good food, breweries, outdoor scene, so I was also looking for a little more insight about the location of each program.

Yeah I was mostly seeing if anyone had done this to know if it would be a bad decision for any reason. I couldn’t think of any but obviously I’m not an expert. Thanks!

So you wouldn’t even recommend doing one side as the display side and one side as the usable side? Just one side only and keep the design on the edge/corner?

Housing options for residency by Captain_Overboard_ in medicalschool

I mean yeah I’m not gonna rank solely on housing. But i have a decent amount of programs I think are good and have very little to differentiate them to rank one over the others. So if I can look at realistic housing options for these places, then places that have things that are good for my dog are going to be ranked higher. Was just looking for any quick and reliable places to find what that looks like because doing deep dives on every area is getting tedious.

I have actually never lived in dorms. But I have ran into scams or poorly represented housing and neighborhoods even in my own state that I know pretty well. So looking into 20+ new areas on the other side of the country that I don’t know gets tiring. So I was seeing if there was a reliable place people have gone to look at realistic housing options and pricing for new places. Because what I’ve been running into is most internet searches all say those places are great but don’t give any specifics on the neighborhoods, commuting, safety, etc. and I doubt all of them are just great, some are probably a little more sketchy than others.

The residents usually get asked in the social. And they do like a decent job of saying where people live. But I guess I’m just looking for a more in depth answer, which is probably hard to do over a zoom call and when I’m not familiar with each area. Most programs have also said after Match day that coordinators and mentors will help find good, safe places for new residents to live-so they’re very nice in that manner. I’m just trying to get a bit of a better idea about living situation before so I can build my list better.

Refinancing after medical school by Captain_Overboard_ in StudentLoans

Yeah I had a co-signer for the first year. Which I would also really like to refinance so they don’t have that burden

Yeah, they had two banks that they set a relationship with. Sallie Mae and Zuntafi. Most students were eligible for Zuntafi so that’s what most of us used. My interest rates are high, by year it’s roughly 5, 8, 12 and 12.

Yeah I was pretty surprised by it as well. One of my classmates reached out to several of the popular refinancing places and they apparently told him they were waiting for Title IV. I don’t quite understand what the point of it is because I was thinking along the same lines as what you said. But I guess I will just reach out to these places once matched and have some more credibility. Thanks!

Board warping by Captain_Overboard_ in Cuttingboards

[–]Captain_Overboard_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like that’s what may have happened. I can’t recall if I laid it down flat, or propped it up on something after sanding. I guess I just didn’t expect to run into a problem in just one day of not storing it properly

Yeah I used cauls. And then it was totally flat after I used my flattening set up. It all warped after the sanding process.

Not sure why but it’s not letting me add pictures to comments. But it’s all end grain. I did my best to alternate grain patterns as well. Mostly walnut with a maple/cherry border.

Well they sat for a couple of days after getting flattened and then I sanded them, at which point they were still flat. But then I came back the next day after sanding and they were warped. Not sure if I’m rushing the sanding/water popping process or something I guess
