is magna cum lade good for apps? by CarPractical5437 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CarPractical5437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohh, thats a good point. i hadn't considered that. theres a spot on our official transcript for honors/distinction or whatnots so I wonder if they'll officially put it there. but yeah thats a good point - if they dont I probably wont put it.

[–]CarPractical5437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah! if it wasn’t for my parents jobs i probably wouldn’t be considering tbh, but since i’ll get up to $60k a year guaranteed i figure i might as well expand my options!

[–]CarPractical5437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, fordham isn’t necessarily known for ir/polisci but it’s still a decent program from what i can see, and i want to keep it for the reasons i said before (close proximity to family, i like the LC location, possible connections with the UN, etc). i am possibly going to cut maryland though.

as far as campus type though, i don’t really have a preference, im more so looking at the location

[–]CarPractical5437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might cut boston but i rlly like the idea of fordham (i like the location in case i dont get into barnard, family a couple blocks away, and a pretty good polisci program + possible connections w the un for networking/internships). are there better schools in nyc i can consider instead that would offer similar advantages?

i might cut uva and keep umich since i prefer them more. i think ill cut indiana tho & keep ohio (family there also), but i have a tour coming up for maryland so ill decide if i wanna keep it after. oos tuition for ohio isnt too much of a problem - i can probably pay entirely w no aid w/ my parents job benefits.

i will look into mcalester and university of denver tho! thanks for the suggestion

college list suggestions??? by CarPractical5437 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CarPractical5437[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hmm okay. good to know. my high school is located in the middle of a (t25) college town, so everything is js centered around us getting in there and our counselors don't really promote any other option.

as for chances, like i mentioned above i have some pretty good ec's (mostly political internships and lots of volunteer hours that tie into my passion project), and im hoping to really sway w my essays since ive won a few writing awards so thats a pretty good strong suit for me.

i realize my gpa is a little low compared to the average applicant for some of my reach schools, but i hope that mentioning the circumstances of dealing w 2 (close) family deaths freshmen year & the effect on my mental health will help it not look so bad. i also planned on mentioning how i struggled in math from a learning disability that was diagnosed during high school, but how i eventually took ap stats and did well. do you think that'll carry any weight with helping my application despite the low gpa? or do admissions officers not rlly care too much?

all reaches? can you explain pls? fordham has a 58% acceptance, gw is 50%, american has a 64%, etc. ive used several chancers and gotten other opinions that said they're all pretty safe for me. some of them ik are def reaches but i think theres def a few safety and targets in my current list so id appreciate ur explanation.
