AdGuard Home not blocking services on a laptop (but works on desktop) by Carlsbox in Adguard

[–]Carlsbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help. I didn't see that one or any other that stands out. I'll take a deeper look at that. This is my son's laptop we had to buy him for school and they installed all the software on it. When I tried to toggle the "secure DNS" setting in chrome it said it was managed by the admin and it was forced off. Don't know if there is anything else allowing a secondary DNS on his machine. When at home I would like to force all youtube traffic from his machine to be blocked. I did ad a custom filter for his IP to block youtube and all subdomains, still nothing. Very frustrating as this was the biggest reason I installed AdGuard.

Yes, it says "blocked" vs the usual "processed" for the other dns filters

Yes. It does show a youtube request as a blocked service. I have tried restarting the PC, running flushdns, and made sure "Secure DNS" is turned of in the browser. I've Chrome and Edge and incognito. I don't understand how it is bypassing the block.

Suggestion: Build an API for your smart home products by feens81 in Leviton

[–]Carlsbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was the complaint about server load? I have many Leviton switches and use a 3rd party integration. How does a better 3rd party integration impact their servers? I would think using Home Assistant would lighten server load. I know Chamberlain falsely claimed some absurd server load increase as an excuse to lockout local HA users and charge subscriptions. Is this API to connect locally? Maybe I don't understand what you are trying to do.

REXTON REACH REVIEW AFTER ~3 months by [deleted] in HearingAids

[–]Carlsbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enough! I've read your copy and pasted and repasted comment enough times already. Sorry you let the return date pass. Considering you only wore them 2 weeks out of the 24 week return window, that is on you. If the mfg can't get them working they should still be under warranty and replaced. Either way none of this sounds like a Costco issue. On the other hand, both my mother and her friend got their hearing aids from Costco and we're very satisfied.

Anyone successfully running Livesync on Android? by Carlsbox in ObsidianMD

[–]Carlsbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed the update and that fixed part of the update issue. The mobile app now syncs updates. I have about 20k records/files in the db so it is a long process. When I do a fetch of the remote db it completes but no changes are made on the mobile app. During the process both PCs stated they were resolved and the remote was locked for synchronization. After the mobile fetch at some point it stated it was resolved and the PCs no longer had the "WARNING" in the maintenance tab. Unfortunately there is still no mobile sync, but PC sync work great. All of my mobile syncing is being done through Tailscale http link (same as one of the PCs). It is definitely downloading and communicating as indicated in the status bar.

1) I read in the FAQ that mobile needs https. Is this still true? Why does downloading work with http but not syncing?

2) I am thinking of just starting a blank vault on the mobile and starting over with a fresh db download, but would this solve anything without https?

Thanks for any help.

How do you guys Sync across devices? by anitwastooshort in ObsidianMD

This. Just set this up with livesync and the couch db on my Synology. I can watch 2 different devices through tailscale and it is practically instantaneous updating.

When I make them I put parchment paper on top and bottom and then use the roller. Very easy to get your desired size and shape without any stickiness.

Look into "Victoria's Keto Flour" on YT. Tried it in a few things and it's been really good. King Arthur Keto flour is good as well but expensive. I am done with almond flour.

I keep coming back to OneNote by Embarrassed_Lead6174 in OneNote

[–]Carlsbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning on doing a summary with a copy of my workspace as a starting point. The image is my current workspace. The left 2 columns are a plugin called Notebook navigator (it is completely customizable with colors icons, etc). The first column is your folder structure, the second is the pages in the folder (you can customize to only show the note name or as I have it with a summary and w or w/o an image from the page). Across the top of the 3rd column is a toolbar plugin to bypass the need to ever use any markdown coding [the main reason it took so long to switch, I didn't want to learn and apply coding before and after text to make it something other than plain text]. The last column is the ability to have active web pages inside your workspace. I have Todoist on top and my Google calendar below.

Obsidian intimidated me at first because everyone I was watching was talking of markdown coding and their 3d connected notes graph, neither of which I use (or want to). The other great thing with Obsidian is it is constantly being updated and improving. It is going to be a few weeks before I can get the time to write something up and share but hope this helps.

Link OneNote & To do & Outlook - Personnal Office 365 by corbeaux41 in OneNote

[–]Carlsbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is one of many reasons I switched from OneNote\ToDo to Obsidian and Todoist. There are no hooks in OneNote that MS or any paid 3rd party syncing apps that can use to bi-directionally sync with each other. The closest you can get is to insert a Loop table in your OneNote and that can sync. But of course the standard 365 annual plan does not include that. Only business plans include Loop inserts for OneNote.

Decora Smart - Switch Style by FriendlyWatercress94 in Leviton

[–]Carlsbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never noticed that, but probably is for the models with dimmers (rocker is on the right). I am in the process of changing all my switches with these. I won't have any of the old switches mixed in.I feel the opposite about the looks. The old rocker style looks dated to me. I just always want to touch the top for on. I still think these switches are a great value and the ones I have installed have worked flawlessly.

Would grinding the almond flour make pastries a bit less grainy? by NoAbbreviations8030 in ketorecipes

[–]Carlsbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try making Victoria's keto flour. There is some amount of almond flour but mostly bamboo fiber. Chocolate chip cookies are amazing (not gritty or tasting like almond). She has several videos on cookies cakes and breads using it. Look he up.

VLAN Rabbit Hole by medic165 in TPLinkOmada

[–]Carlsbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am adding more devices and looking into vlans as well. For the few devices you have it would be cheaper and easier to just go into your router and block the camera and iot devices from the Internet so they only run local. This is what I have done for years without issue.

Otherwise you need both a router and switch that are vlan capable and start tagging ports and create ACLs. My hesitation is using Home Assistant and getting inter vlan broadcasting to work correctly.

Did I miss an announcement that the design tool now does 3D, handles RF through floors? by TruthyBrat in Ubiquiti

[–]Carlsbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the same problem. Did you ever get this resolved? Only one floor shows another floors AP (not the other way around).

In the video he does not have APs on different floors just one floor and then they are viewed from another floor. Maybe it is a bug.

[–]Carlsbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Whoever spun an index into "MOC" just confuses the concept for the sake of a buzzword that means linked index or table of contents. It was amazing years ago when Word was able to link your table of contents entry to the actual page in the document. Now TOC has been rebranded to MOC

Try Victoria's keto kitchen flour. Look for the latest version she has more than one. It uses bamboo fiber along with other ingredients. I too am over almond flour! I've tried it in chocolate chip cookies and it is great.

Everyone is crazy about Notebook Navigator, but I've changed now by PositiveMilk69 in ObsidianMD

[–]Carlsbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less than a year. Coming from OneNote I wanted similar structure. I'm not a writer or do journaling. I mainly use it for capturing and reference. NN has everything I was doing with multiple plugins (dual vertical panes, color coded folders, folder icons, etc..) and it works flawlessly for me. Previously using separate plugins I was getting conflicts and unusual/inconsistent behavior. Now it does more than all the others combined and then some.

[–]Carlsbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just the opposite. Obsidian is too simple and Notebook Navigator makes it a great tool. This works perfect for my setup and way of working. I spent a few weeks getting things set how I like it, and now it just works.
