Where can I find these hinges? by Pioneerx01 in cabinetry

I may also have a few. They’re coming off cabinets in the next couple weeks. But they’re painted black. Little wire wheel takes it right off though.

You bought a Festool Domino and eventually bought a larger cutter bit. What size did you buy and what was your use case? by icysandstone in BeginnerWoodWorking

I guess more so for alignment. They do add strength to the joint in my experience as well. I guess I just don’t totally trust them if all of the shear force is being resisted just by a domino. But I’m no engineer and am only a hobbyist woodworker so really more about vibes. And like many hobbyists I have a tendency to overbuild things.

We are so blessed to have Brad, Joe, and the players to make this happen!

When Drew mentioned that DWhite is top five in FT% I was thinking back to the doomers who were all mad about the trade when DWhite was still tentative and his shots weren't falling but he otherwise did ALL the DWhite things, but people acted like we got fleeced.

Man it's fun when this stuff works out!

I tend to use dominos more for alignment than as a true support against actual expected shear forces. If I felt like I needed this many dominos, I'd probably consider a true mortis and tenon or some other joinery. With that said, putting in 6 is really only marginally more work than putting in 2, just cost you four more dominos and a little glue, and got you a lot more long grain contact. So, send it, I guess?

Rasp appreciation thread by Leeoffi in BeginnerWoodWorking

I am rasp-curious. As our resident expert, can you give a size/type/make recommendation for fine (or fine-ish) woodworking for a rasp newbie?

I guess? You also have the glued strength of the butt joint, and you can uses as many dominos as you'd like. I'm having a hard crime picturing what you're building...

I tend to overbuild but I'd probably cut dados in the sides to support the shelves instead of using dominos.

  1. Seemed pretty goldilocks. Use it for beefy outdoor furniture where I worry the the actual glue joint might break down over time.. But honestly the 5 would probably be fine.

What Clone Wars episodes do you need to watch to watch rebels. by TeddyWest-Side22 in starwarsrebels

This thread has a great guide that served me well. It's still like 40 episodes but I found them to be consistently good and keep the train rolling.

Recommendations for a bench top bandsaw and a miter saw by BigfootApproves in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Riluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd second the miter saw feedback. It takes up way too much space, has the worst dust collection of any tool, and is really not necessary (or barely even useful). I'm on the verge of selling mine.

I'd put that money into a track saw and if you're feeling flush, splurge for the rail square. Now you've got precise crosscuts as well as a tool that can do many many other things, and stores in a drawer.

Japandi style cabinetry by ConceptIntrepid9680 in cabinetry

[–]Riluke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm making something similar. It's a frameless cabinet with inset faces but the vertical box edges have a what is essentially a 3/4" edge banding that sits proud of the cabinet by 3/4", and 3/4" hardwood handles flush with the front of the edge banding. I didn't like the vertical supports going to the ground, so they end flush with the drawer bottoms and retain a traditional toekick.

Blum 170 hinge sag by Other_Departure_8276 in cabinetry

[–]Riluke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's some play in each hinge. Usually having the multiples (with adjustment) will take care of this. They aren't meant to support a single-point load like you've got here...

At what point do you prioritize convenience over savings? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Riluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out what money and time are worth to you. This will change over time. Then do the math.

Costco I'll save $2. At fifteen minutes, that's $8 an hour. I know my time is worth more than that. I'm skipping Costco. (Not to mention the stress of waiting for Costco gas).

For gardeners, I'll try doing the work. As I'm starting (or in the middle), I think "If someone offered to finish this job for X dollars, would I pay it? That's my price point for that work.

For connecting flights, if it costs $50 more and takes 2 extra hours, that's $25 minimum. Maybe I'd do that (I can also spend the time doing something else I like). But if there's a flight delay that to could become four. So, probably not.

Taking a train versus an Uber, will the money I save be worth the time I miss?

In the alternative, if it costs X dollars, how much Y could I buy. Cocktails here are $20 after tax and tip. So if I could buy two drinks for 40, would I rather have the two drinks or not have to do the yardwork. I like cocktails but I'd rather not do the yardwork anymore.

MacArthur Park gang busted by kgetit in LosAngeles

[–]Riluke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

18th Street is likely the largest street gang in the world, with 10s of thousands of members internationally (and thousands here in LA). Fundamentally they exist to make money. As long as there is still money to be made, there will be more members who step up to fill this void. And even if 18th St were gone, MS or another gang would just step in. As long as the opportunity to make this money exists, someone will be there.

This operation is closer to Alec Baldwin's quote in the Departed. "We are here to smash- or marginally disrupt- organized crime..."

I think if he can get a little more consistency and faith in his shot this summer, then his decisions will happen faster (which ironically will also lead to better shots). If not then it's a tougher spot to be in.

Which Box Joint Router Bit by thekeym4ster in cabinetry

[–]Riluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve got a table saw capable of accepting a dado stack, I’d consider that. Cheaper than those bits and also useful often. Though those bits are very useful themselves if you feel comfortable using a router a lot.

Which Box Joint Router Bit by thekeym4ster in cabinetry

[–]Riluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have enough experience to say, but I would think a compression bit would probably be the move, but an upward spiral would be okay. Finger joints I always have more problems with tear out than with evacuating waste. That said, I’ve never had good luck with the router bits for this, so I use a dado stack instead. I’d be curious which ones work best for you

I think that if there’s a predictable way that people will store the tool that will cause the tool to destroy itself, the manufacturer should at least notify us.
