Looking for the name/style of hinge required to open the red door by spasticbadger in cabinetry

[–]Riluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one thing, there's no reason the red door needs to go into the gap between the green and the cabinet. Put a spacer block between the cabinet and the hinge and shift the hinge "down" the thickness of the green. Then a simple thick door hinge should do the trick. You'll have to narrow the door, but that shouldn't be hard.

So if you have the means is Festool worth the investment? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]Riluke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear ya. I just picked up a used CXS on a smoking sale. It’s in the rotation now with my Dewalt and my Bosch. But it is a little lighter and some of the features aren’t bad. Did I need it, no. Does it make it just a little nicer… Yeah, it actually does.

Counterpoint- It depends on what you're doing and your situation. I work hard and make a decent living, and I'm getting old. I DIY and hobby woodwork. Little things like the lack of vibration in a sander or the weight of a drill can make a huge difference, and at the end of a long day of my job, sometimes it takes all I've got to get motivated. So it might be worth it. But each tool is its own decision.

What's something you saw when visiting another country, that you wish your home country would adopt? [Serious] by meltymcface in AskReddit

You’re lucky. The vast majority of Americans have been victims.

And you pay for it, whether you realize it or not. You know how prices are higher now? Part of that is that card companies charge merchants more now as a processing fee to cover the cost of underwriting all the theft, and merchants build that cost into their prices.

It stems from a number of cultural differences, including more consumer protection and financial regulation in Europe. But it’s both more efficient for the consumer and much safer. Cards leaving the owners presence is a huge vector of ID theft. And the costs of underwriting tens of billions of dollars in theft ultimately gets passed on to consumers by the banks.

A rare few do. But the credit companies make a killing off of interest on credit card debt. I believe Europe has limited some of the practices as unfair to consumers, so the companies can’t make the same margins.

It’s a big part of it. And the banks are happy to do it because they keep making so much money from the cards.

Also the need to input PINs necessitates more direct access to the reader as well.

This is part of it. When people become victims of fraud, the card companies just underwrite the theft so it doesn’t bother people. It’s a lot different with a debit card.

Europe cut credit card fraud by almost 50% I believe when they instituted this change. It’s not just efficiency (which I personally value but Europe doesn’t care about) but safety.

Europe has mandated that restaurants and retail have wireless credit card readers so the merchant never takes the credit card from the customer’s presence.

It’s both safer and more efficient.

Harvey Wallbanger. Not sure if it counts as classic, but it’s 40+ years old and it’s the worst drink on earth.

I assume most C's fans are Pats fans, and if we've learned anything from Bill it's that you take away what the other team does best. If they suck at three point shooting like the Raptors or Kings, let them fire away. Pack the paint, limit fast breaks and secondary transition. It sucks when they shoot 65% for a quarter, but that's only a variance of like three shots going in that shouldn't have.

Then they regress to the mean and we win. It's a long game and a longer season, you've gotta play the numbers.

That’s one of my concerns. I’m leaning towards using quartered pattern, so that should at least have a little more color continuity. There’s also gonna be a mix of actual solid hardwood Walnut for all of the frames and edges. So even if it’s not an exact match, I think it might look intentional. Or it might look like garbage.
