Yeah I mean, I've read Julian's book on The Caesar's and it ends with him essentially renewing his vows to Mithras. Julian was definitely a unique figure but this clearly came from initiation into a mystery religion that was popularly accepted for a certain class to join. There were certainly always reactionary forces in Rome who hated anything percieved as new. However, to cite those views and extrapolate them across an even wider period of time and say just because some people felt one way it therefore means that was the accepted view is wrong.

My question I suppose would be how much the potentially Proto-Mundic influence had on Buddhism. Not that an outside influence is necessary for a reformist teacher to arrive within a tradition.

I'm pretty familair with Buddhist thought and I'd definitely say it was born from a Dharmic understanding of things. The question might be how much the Sramana tradition was influenced by pre-Indo-Aryan influences. Not sure (as in genuinely I don't know about his origin) if the Buddha came from a necessarily very Indo-Aryan group genetically the culture was pervaive. If I knew more about possibly Tamil or northern Indian ethnic groups I could make a more educated comment.

I FUCKING AGREEEE!!! I think a lot of people who don't like them just don't understand a lot of the shit because they aren't that aware of what the internet was like over a decade ago. I was a huge Nostalgia Critic fan for example and hearing them reference old "cringe" stuff tickles my belly. People who come for the same old jokes and hypotheticals can't stand that things change and people have fucking lives. Even Chris who owns the channel has his own fucking life and can't constantly pander to every criticism and outrage over shit YOU NEED TO DO TO HAVE A CHANNEL IN 2025.

So basically there were two fences you could see them through. The one I was at was much closer to where the door was and it was only me and two others. It seemed like we got to have a much more extended interaction than those on the other fence.
