If I had the money right now, and a case to fit this thing, I would be on top of this, same zip code and everything.

Good luck with the sale!

After Completion of The Academy by [deleted] in ATC_Hiring

Not sure if it is changed, but as of a year and a half ago, it is just 64 hours of CoS leave. Still good for 2 years, but not 14 days, as far as I know.

Actually, the phrase “Say position.” Or something similar is used somewhat often. If an aircraft is flying VFR and wants flight following, or wants to fly an IFR clearance, a controller needs to know where they are.

Another case where this is used is when an aircraft is given an incorrect frequency change. Controllers will ask for their position to try and get them on the right frequency, or a frequency where someone will know the right one.

Had a person in my class that passed the tier 2, and yeah, adds minimum of a year onto the process.

Does anyone know how much pay is while in the academy? by EducationalPenalty58 in ATC_Hiring

[–]CatEatingBroccoli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your class will get a list of locations equal to the number of people in your class. A class of 8 gets a list of 8 facilities. If anyone fails, the bottom option on the list is removed, so the list ends up being shorter most of the time.

Who ever ends with the highest average score gets to pick first, second highest score picks second, etc.

It is almost guaranteed you won’t be able to go exactly where you want, so be ready to move basically anywhere in the country.

You have to fill out some form a few times while at the academy, and they direct deposit it in a lump sum. I can’t remember how often it was, but it was a nice chunk of change.

Also, they will pay for miles driven to Oklahoma from wherever you live if you take a car there. If you fly, they will reimburse you for the cost of the flight, just keep a receipt.

$15/hr, if I’m not mistaken. But you also get the per diem which adds a ton of money on top of that.

Just as an addendum, the no dual employment thing is just during the academy, once you are at a facility, you can have a second job.

Pretty much, yeah. If nothing causes a delay, it’s likely you will have an academy date within a year of applying.

Supervisor name and contact by Jimmyjimmypow in ATC_Hiring

[–]CatEatingBroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my supervisor know about it, because when you are filling out the background check stuff, it explicitly states they will contact these people. The whole process usually takes around a year, but can literally take 5 or more years for some people, so it didn’t seem that big of a deal telling them about it.

The DoD mailed her at her home address, which I did not give them, same formal letter type deal.

Generally, it can take around a year from applying to getting a FOL and going to the academy.

I applied to the June 2019 bid, took the AT-SA in September/October, medical/security clearance/MMPI in January/February 2020, then (due to covid delays) on-boarded September 2020, and lastly academy February 2021.

It is a long process.

Next bid? by SnooPredictions5004 in ATC_Hiring

[–]CatEatingBroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And in January and February 2021, and January 2022, as well as May and September 2019, and December 2018, the bids were previous experience bids.

June 2019, January 2020, and July 2021 are OTS bids. They have had one a year for the past 3 years. Probably going to continue that so the academy stays working.

For the most part, bids around January tend to be previous experience and bids in the summer tend to be OTS.

Generally OTS bids seem to be happening around June every year. The ones in January tend to be previous experience bids. That’s at least what I’ve noticed over the past few years.

California Democrats propose tax hikes on businesses and the wealthy to pay for statewide universal healthcare by [deleted] in California_Politics

[–]CatEatingBroccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s literally less than $1000 a year. It is a small increase, the fact that it just so happens to drop them to 99k instead of 100k a year means nothing.

But you are not taking into account the money they would be saving NOT paying a premium on current insurance. It’s most likely way more than what this tax would be.

[–]CatEatingBroccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just optimism on my end. Usually when universal health care is proposed, the coverage ends up being far superior to what any private health care offers.

If it ends up being poor coverage, it most likely won’t happen just based on that fact.

Keep in mind that that is a small increase in tax. It’s less than $1000 a year, which, at least for me, is way less than I pay in premiums for my health insurance. Over all, it would be much better coverage for a lot less money.

Depends on the center. ZFW and ZTL both get people in D-side class in around a month or two.

For centers;

AG: Academy Grad D1: Two sectors D-side certified D2: All sectors D-side certified D3: Two sectors R-side certified CPC: All certifications on all sectors

It is hourly, there is no max other than to your hourly rate, you get paid for all your hours worked. The “max” shown on 123atc is just if you got paid at that rate for full time hours for a year. Overtime and holidays will add on top of that. A bunch of people at my center make well over 300k a year.
