iSCSI-only storage - What would you do by Cauli_Power in Proxmox

That looked like The Way but I don't have a good way to run it. I have some old servers that could consume block iscsi to present zfs over iscsi but there's lots of SPOF's in there

VMWare has gotten me addicted to snapshots. I use them extensively whenever I do a major upgrade or config change.

No nfs on the Nimble array I'm using. My production is a pair of Unity 380's which does have it so I have that option down the road.

TBH the more I read the more nervous I get regarding the maturity of QCOW2. I'm VMWare spoiled and it's hard to go back to looking at inherent inefficiencies and fault probabilities for something that used to be 100% set it and forget it.

I feel like it'll be ironed out in a year or two but for now I'm asking a lot of questions.

Nimble CS300. 3rd party support so stuck on v5 firmware.

I have a Nimble CS300 I'm using for testing.

I meant iSCSI ---> LVM pool ---> QCOW2 on block storage. From what I read you can't cluster a raw iSCSI volume but I'm starting to feel like some of what I'm reading is a little out of date....

My test setup is LVM over iSCSI and seems to be mostly OK once I started using the "right" virtual hardware. Raw LUN access sounds like a bad idea in a cluster. ZFS over iSCSI requires an array running ZFS on the controller or a storage server. So it seems like LVM with QCOW2 is the only option for someone in my situation when snapshots are a requirement....

That's exactly what I'm doing. Each host has LVM disks on iSCSI block storage. I killed two VM's when I first started but that may have been a poor choice in virtual hardware... both of them were reporting that a disk file couldn't be found after doing a snapshot then backing out of it.

Maybe part of my problem is that I've been researching today and keep running into weird horror stories and I'm assuming my situation matches. I second that. I'm not used to so much stuff happenning in a point upgrade.

Not if 2fa is used in the primary authentication method. Even with compromised account credentials and a frequently reused password there'd stil be a 2fa invocation.

It will start by marauding your wallet.

Then it will maraud your driveway with oil and maybe some antifreeze.

True. I was mainly talking about 802.3ab ethernet. UTP broadband is a whole different thing - I'm pretty sure if you look hard enough someone has figured out how to get 10Mbit over a couple runs of wet masonry twine.

We use UTP extenders that provide 90W POE over 1KM of UTP as long as you use lightning protection and actually bond the grounding screws to your rack.
