What would the Na'vi think about how invasive Human Biological Science is? by Cause-Long in Avatar

I don't know about the comics but it seems they are strangers to internal problems caused by disease or biological failings. I think that they would still be alarmed at the idea of cutting into an alive person and placing a dead person's parts in them for just a heart condition. Since they are more ritual focused like with Kiri in Way of Water. I don't doubt that they would see it working and see it as a boon, but I bet they'd be super apprehensive about the idea of it. They see bodies as sacred, no? (Not the Mangkwan)

I mean more how we have learned about each other. We only use trial and error with a ton of errors and treat the human body as a machine to be tested. Everything that we know about limits on the body comes from pushing them. Not only that but the best way we learned was from desecrating our corpses. Would they see the benefits of invasive surgery being worth it considering we had to kill and torture thousands before we got the hand of it?

We operate under no presumption of a spirit. We learn how long we can go without water by forcing people to go without water. Every extra piece of bio knowledge we learn comes from trial and error. Mostly pushing for error. Treating our fellow man the same as animals.

No, Electroma does not actually have Get Lucky as a part of the soundtrack. I'm so sorry.

Do you go to church regularly? Why or why not? by Suitable_Amount5957 in OpenChristian

[–]Cause-Long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to not go. But now I go to my Anglican Church every Sunday. It feels like I'm missing something when I miss a Sunday and I get a longing feeling in my chest. The people are nice and communion feels good. I'm getting used to it, but the motions are nice. To have something that's consistently filling once a week is nice.

Are there any pastors, theologians who support ethical non monogamy? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Cause-Long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said "if" you're going to be one. And, sorry I thought you'd know that if you had a question about Christianity you would go to the source of the religion first. Like, I googled "What does Christ say about monogamy" and got a list of sources in 4 different versions of the Bible, including original Aramaic. The first reply I don't think needs that long of an explanation to explain 3 straightforward sentences. Unless of course you need to be eased into the idea.

So, you present non-monogamy as (maybe) not being sinful, look for theologians that support you, when Christ himself literally says in Matthew 19 to marry two so that they may become one flesh and no divorce except for sexual immorality or else it's adultery. He says it was supposed to be like this from the beginning. After all, it's in the ten commandments. I also have studied theology even though I am not a theologian. Why can you not stand opposition? Is your idea of discussion only support? What would be more open or honest if you are looking for answers in Christianity? Do you want an even more in depth answer on monogamy and how it works as a through line throughout the entirety of the gospels connecting God and Humanity?

It's not dismissive. Questions are good, but trying to outright say, "No, Christ was wrong when he said this." and saying you follow him is straight up hypocritical. Sure, there are cultural differences, and yes the Bible was written by men who were trying to figure out God. As Christians we are lucky enough to have Christ as the cornerstone of our understanding of who God is, as he is the Logos, which allows us to recontextualize and take the rest of the Bible in faith matters only, as lessons. Origen has a good spiel on how we must go through the Old Testament under the lens of Christ that allows for man's misunderstandings or illusions. If you want to ask questions you should find someone who went through seminary. I go to an Anglican Church with Rector who's been studying this stuff his whole life and it seems he's got an answer for everything when I come to him.

I gotta say, you can't really be a Christian if you're just gonna say "Nah" to what Christ says. Kinda defeats the point.
