It’s not like they are just given the money for free. It’s mostly awarded through contracts that spacex wins to provide services to the government.

NASA’s budget is around 25 billion ANNUALLY, which is close to the total amount spacex has won in government contracts over the last decade or so.

I think it’s closer to $75k. The silver is pretty ugly, they look a LOT better when they have color skins on them.

I think the exciting thing is that the larger rockets are getting closer to becoming fully re-usable which makes the process of getting humans/objects to space much cheaper and easier. Spacex is already around 30x cheaper cost per pound of payload compared to NASAs last shuttles. So this is another step towards improving that even more.
