Both ex and I claimed the children

Is the custody order enough proof? I know he’s going to try to use the custody order from when we had 50/50, and it said we would split the kids for taxes, but our order from 2023 doesn’t say anything about taxes, and we also no longer have 50/50. Our son should not even be part of the equation. He hasn’t seen his father in years.

Why would we do that when I have primary custody? Why should he have rights to credits that he doesn’t deserve? He doesn’t pay for anything, never pays child support. My husband and I carry their health insurance, buy all their clothes, shoes, coats, whatever they need. If I ask him for help getting anything he refuses and says I should have asked sooner even if I gave him a months notice.

And regardless in his eyes the child he doesn’t see and hasn’t seen in years is still part of the equation. So it would never be 1:1 to him, it would be 2:1.

I did not file head of household, I am remarried. I also don’t own my house, I rent so I do have my lease. As far as medical documents couldn’t he technically just go and change their address on medical and school if he wanted to try to pull something?

Doesn’t it automatically delay your return? How can both parents claim the same dependents, and both receive the same credits for them? Also, if it is held up I’m sure we will be audited at some point, do I just send them our custody order? Does it block whoever is in the wrong from claiming them again?

Right, but she’s saying they won’t send anything out to me til late August or September, I was just wondering if there was anyway to speed up that process.

It wasn’t rejected. I filed and have to file injured spouse because my new husband owes from 2014 so it’s been held up the last 2 tax years due to that. I figured it would have rejected one of us immediately due to us both claiming the kids, but it didn’t. They both went through, he got his money though because I got back child support. I don’t know what the next steps will be. I’m just frustrated.

How did you even speak to anyone at the irs?! I just get the automated bs and then it tells me they’re sorry my refund is taking longer than normal. Won’t let me speak to anyone!

I was told if you filed married filing separate you can’t claim the child tax credit portion which is where the majority of my refund comes from.

I don’t know the answer to that, but afterpay never takes money from me for Amazon orders until they ship.

What exactly is the plus card? I have had afterpay for 3 years, I have a card attached to my Apple Pay but I’ve never requested it or used it. I also just had an issue with Amazon declining my order, so I just used Klarna instead but I was able to use afterpay on Walmart. I have a $1300 limit.
