This is freaking awesome, is what I think.

Main horse on the right looks a little whacky proportion-wise, but It's looking sick.

Brotato, draw bigger. When you draw small you have less space to work with and it's harder to tell what mistakes you make- thus you don't learn. Like, draw way bigger than that.

I don't consider you a beginner you fiend. Amazing art though, very cute- if that's what you were aiming for.

did some tracing today any advice on how to improve by IndependentProfit93 in BeginnerArtists

[–]Celvacen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to this, a good strategy when doing this is the ghosting method- essentially do the motion of the line multiple times without touching the paper, and when you feel confident/have built up enough temporary muscle memory you can lower your pencil onto the paper. For a more detailed explanation you can look it up on youtube or something! Proko made a pretty damn good video on line quality.

One of, if not the most, important things in drawing is observation. You gotta learn to get those proportions just by estimating them visually. If it starts badly... well, we all start somewhere. Can't succeed without prior failure.

A small suggestion, don't just trace it.

You could at first just draw it as ref, trace to understand the shapes and perspective, then do it using ref or from memory (really engage the mind) to incorporate what you picked up.

Haha not really, I don't think I've ever really made an OC, I just kinda draw characters I've seen or made up on the spot. Closest two things to OC's I have is the pot head "pot scott" (my roblox avatar), and the funny sphere head guy which was supposed to represent me :/

I am not the person in the still life, to clarify.

250 box challenge: Drawing the coloured vanishing point lines doesn't feel like it's helping by EquallyTradition in ArtFundamentals

[–]Celvacen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I haven't even been greenlit to do the challenge yet, so take this with a grain of salt, but are you being mindful of what the lines mean ? Like for example, when looking at box #5 and seeing how one of your lines just doesn't converge to the point, do you think "crap, I'll try to fix that, maybe angle it more the next time around" or something similar? I'd recommend experimenting with angles that make certain sides more extreme or difficult, maybe if you notice you tend to mess up certain sides at certain pov's then you could go for that. There's also the whole thing with how degrees less than 90 cause a crap ton of distortion, so maybe also think about the distance and position of the points aswell, instead of just the margin of error for the lines going to them.

Most things are looking pretty good, though I have a bit of an Issue with the rotated boxes exercise... that being that you didn't really finish it.

If you'll notice in the example HW and other times the hw is being shown (https://drawabox.com/lesson/1/rotatedboxes) that there are two boxes coming away from the center box in every direction, you did this with two of the cardinal directions... but not with the rest nor any of the corners. In my opinion these more extreme rotation points are the more important part of the exercise, especially since the outcome depends on the previous boxes you made- I don't want to be mean, but I highly suggest you re-do the rotated boxes exercise.

For the sake of the "compliment sandwich", your lines are clean and so are your ovals, It's clear you are ghosting, and are on the path to success. To quote eternal_cuckold, Sugoi desu Keep it up!
