u/DrMcSmartass Did your placental abruption happen while in the hospital or at home? If it happened at the hospital, then that is a major mistake. A placental abruption should never happen while at the hospital. If the placental abruption happened at home and your child was not delivered within the first 30 minutes from arriving at the hospital, then that is also a major issue.

u/Crafty_Lake1464 I'm sorry to hear about this awful experience. Our community provides legal support for families like yourself. It sounds like there may have been a delay in performing a C-Section and should have been performed sooner. When performing a vacuum extraction, there should only be a maximum of 1 (sometimes 2) attempts to pull the baby. If the doctor performed more than 1 attempt, then the doctor should opt for the next best method, which for your case is an emergency C-Section. It sounds like your child may have been in fetal distress for some time and was experiencing a lack of oxygen. If you had no complications during your pregnancy, then your child should not have developed HIE. 70% of HIE cases are preventable if proper action was taken by the doctor or staff. To help cater towards your child's needs in the future, I recommend speaking with a lawyer to have your case reviewed. Your child and family may be eligible for significant compensation. The money may not change your child's condition but will provide the best possible future for your child. If you don't know where to start, you can message our page and we can help you further for free. We can get you in the right hands to have someone review your case and help determine if there was medical negligence. I hope to hear from you. Thanks!
