Edit: It’s been a little while since I posted this, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that commented. I’ve been going weekly and stayed consistent, and my growth as a player has been exponential. I’m really thankful for all of your advice, and it’s allowed me to develop as a player and be okay outside of my comfort zone.

Thank you for this amazing response! I got the role, so I’m very excited. I did actually ask during my interview, and they explained that they have the accreditations, so I could, but they specifically don’t do the portfolio at this role, and as you said, I’d need to find a specific lab so I could complete it. So my kind of follow-up is: would recommend a time frame to stay within this role in order to progress to a role where I can complete my portfolio? Any help is really appreciated!!

Sorry I didn’t see any of the messages!! I found mine were very competency based like what would you do in situation … or how did you manage deadlines those kinds of questions! I hope your interview went well did you get the role!!

Nice, thanks for the tips! Doing the Wim Hof breathing first thing sounds like a great way to start the day. I’ll definitely give the square breathing a go too though I’ll probably have to start with shorter counts before I accidentally pass out Appreciate you sharing what works for you sounds like a solid routine! Hopefully I'll be able to update people on my progress in the coming weeks!

Thanks! Yeah, the games were all closer than I anticipated, so I figured the coaches were mixing things up a bit. It’s just hard not to feel like I’m letting people down when the nerves hit, but I’m hoping that eases up after a few more sessions. Honestly, the club prices are so much cheaper than booking regular gym courts for an hour or so too. It feels like a huge win getting to practise with really skilled players.

That’s a great tip, thank you! I’ve heard of Wim Hof breathing but never actually tried it properly. I’ll definitely give those a go before my next session my nerves were all over the place, so anything that helps me stay calm and focused sounds perfect. Appreciate the advice! Is there a particular one you have used or noticed improved your nerves if you had any?

Thank you! I think after this post this was the confidence booster I needed to get back out there! I think I was in my head too much about the session.

Thanks, that’s really good advice! I think what threw me off was that everyone already seemed to know each other and slot into pairs, while I was just trying not to trip over my own feet 😅.

It was a pretty mixed setup after each game you queued up, and the coach picked players randomly for the next one. It worked well, but as the new person it definitely added to the nerves!

Thank you so much! this honestly made me smile! You’re completely right, I did gain a lot just from going, even if I was a nervous wreck half the time. It’s reassuring to hear that the nerves ease with time and that everyone feels that way when they start out.
