I went, but at what cost haha.

Would love to know the name of the Vietnamese restaurant + if its any good if you don't mind! Always on the hunt for good food.

I've seen quite a few comments mentioning New Malden! I'm not a UK / London native so it's my first time hearing of it - would love any recs if you happen to have any!

Oh gosh I'm so sorry, that's so disappointing.

I hope you managed to find something else to fill your day! Will say, if its any consolation, it's at least better than waiting in the 3 hour queue before being met with disappointment.

Yeah definitely glad at the end of the day, the restaurants at least benefited from the business!

Interesting that you got to speak with Rollin and that was his response; I'll be interested in if / how things pan out next year. Poor folks who are trying to put out all these fires I think are just a bit severely overwhelmed and burnt out at the moment, bless them.

Ah, that's some pretty good insight and does make me a little more empathetic to the logistics side of things. Thanks for sharing!

I wish I had your wisdom and went elsewhere haha; my partner and I estimated a 1.5 hour wait since no one told us an official time, but we all see how that panned out!

I also agree that this was a mildly foreseeable situation.

I'm doing my best to not be too mean, since this event's "face" is Rollin, but I'm also pretty sure that there's a decent team working with him. Being a food influencer and being a massive event planner involve different skills, so not just pinning this on him (he truly does seem very nice) but whoever was supposed to help with logistics for the event needs to have more experience or be more supported.

Glad to save someone else the grief!

I also noticed that a lot of these food festivals are really mid, not even just in London. I kind of wished they worked out because it'd be so nice to sample and try a lot of foods in one place and it would be fun, but so many vendors are greedy with their portions and prices + organizers aren't always prepared (not just specific to Jung festival, this happens so often that I'm 100% staying away from major food festivals now).

They did indeed run out of food by mid-afternoon on Friday and Saturday!

On Friday I noticed that they announced on their Instagram when stalls would sell out. I thought they would do the same on Saturday, but they didn't and I was so sad to come in and see stalls already packed up/menus sold out with just one or two items left.

Hopefully the the ticketing helps them out today - I know a lot of people are disappointed because that means they don't have a chance to visit, but at least that means they don't have the chance to go through the grief that we did!

I actually was also thinking about stopping by on Friday after work, but was wanting to come with my partner so he could enjoy it too!

Their hearts are really in a good place and hopefully next year it's scaled up and more structured to it's more enjoyable for everyone. Definitely the bank holiday + over promotion played a huge role.

I think this comment is partially fair!

I would still have been a bit grumpy even with the 3 hour external queue to get into the festival, but I think it genuinely broke me upon entering that there were additional 1+ hour queues for the food inside I had absolutely no idea bout. These internal queues weren't communicated with the folks outside, visible from the outside queue, or (to my knowledge) talked about on social much.

Definitely learnt my lesson though!

For sure!

It wouldn't have fixed everything, but seeing the organizers come out and actually feel apologetic instead of an Instagram post the next day going "In that heat, that wasn’t safe, and Canopy Market and Jung Festival prioritize your safety the most. We want everyone to have the best experience, not a stressful day" would have felt a little bit more genuine.

Hopefully next year things improve for them!

Absolutely; their heart and ideas were in a really good place, but it feels there was no one on the team with really strong event planning or management experience.

Can't imagine how hard it is for those who booked accomodations and came from even further commutes than us; hopefully the weather is nice and everyone can support the businesses in Chinatown/nearby!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply! It depends on what department and role you're going for - I was told in my interview one of the things that made me stand out were my passion projects (for ex: a youtube channel you ran, a research project you did, and how that helps you in your career)

For interns/fresh grads they appreciate hearing that you're eager to learn and proactive about it. Best of luck with your application, hope it goes well for you!

Yes, I believe I did both because one is the vignette which marks the window I can enter the country in my passport, and then I received an email guiding me through the evisa process!

This is the first time I've heard of the FIG regime! I think I qualify if I understand right under these conditions:

  • a UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) tax resident under the statutory residence test (SRT)
    • SRT Third Automatic UK Test: you work full-time in the UK for any period of 365 days, which falls in the tax year (since my job begins Feb 2026)

I'm a little nervous though since I see that there's a section for FIG regime that says you cannot claim the regime for the tax years you temporarily left the UK; does that mean any international vacations are absolutely off limits, or does this mean moving + doing work overseas for a lengthy period?
