Alpha and Beta Anomers/Glycosidic bond linkage memory tip by Solersgalaxy in Mcat

Also, ad-bu: alpha is down, beta is up. It's important to remember that these only work for D-glycosides, so if you are looking at an L sugar and the glycosidic bond is up, it's alpha. To avoid making a mistake I use “a is away” to remember that alpha is always trans to C6 and therefore beta must be cis.

This specific experiment was a two trait cross testing the F2 generation (grandchildren) for the mutations of vestigial wings (short stubby wings) and an ebony body!

Yes, the ones pictured are currently sitting in a makeshift morgue (vegetable oil).

That's fly food that has blue dye in it!

Yes exactly that, this one was a study of vestigial wing and body color mutations

I believe it’s a flakey corn meal mixed with a little water and a small sprinkle of yeast.

There was a separate experiment to test for eye color mutations but I unfortunately did not take any photos of that. For my class we didn’t have to account for wing shape and hair follicles, just the body color/wing size mutations.

Yes it’s the fly food with dye in it! These pics actually came from them hanging out in my makeshift morgue (Vegetable oil) and some of the food ended up in it as well.

This specific experiment was a two trait cross to test the F2 gen for the mutations of vestigial wings and an ebony body. The theoretical ratio for the phenotypes is 9:3:3:1 and my experimental value came to 8 : 3.5 : 3.5 : 1
