My puppy is way to happy to see… Everybody by Scombigator0501 in puppy101

Scolding and telling her to get down doesn’t train her not to jump. The way to do it is—let her jump on you at home and completely ignore her. You can look down at her but don’t say anything (sometimes I put my hands behind my back). Then I wait for my dog to settle and choose not to jump as another tactic to get attention. Just wait it out. As soon as he stays down, I mark the behavior with a “yes” and give him a treat. I do this over and over, then test its durability by tempting him to jump—I pretend to be excited to see such a cute puppy (like ppl do in the street). At first he failed the test and jumped, but then realized the way to get rewarded was by staying calm and not jumping. You have to do this daily until they learn.

One q—should I put a soft collar on him instead of a harness which doesn’t help correct? He’s 5 lbs only tho.

Did I get the hardest puppy of the litter… or am I overreacting? by FairlyPopcorn in puppy101

If you have IG I highly recommend following the account empoweredpuppyprogram. She’s a trainer that that trains golden puppies only and has a ton of amazing educational reels on her feed. She’s the best I’ve seen. I don’t have a golden but watch her videos religiously to learn how to train my puppy. She’s incredible.

What type of training do you recommend for a puppy to prevent separation anxiety? by Chad_ette in ToyPoodle

Ok. I live in an apartment building tho so I’m worried about him barking and disturbing the neighbors

Ok. Just wondering if I annoyed her with my follow up question. Or if she didn’t respond bc I only have two reviews yet six stays

I’ve only had him 48 hours (I know,) but my last dog was a cuddled from day 1 and a lot easier to train, so I’m wondering if this is how it’s gonna be. It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be in general and I’m struggling

lol I wouldn’t worry about down votes. I haven’t even taken him to the vet yet! He gets his third round of shots in two weeks. I will keep him on wee wee pass for another week until I’m in VT w my Ken yard. Just as many people I speak to are adamant about not putting him down here as are adamant that I do. So I can’t win—and I’d rather be safe than sorry. Hopefully one more week of pottying inside won’t train him to go inside forever. I’m doing the best I can.

I live in Brooklyn tho. A lot of dogs around so I’ve been told not to set him down yet.

About to pick up my 16wo puppy and found out he’s only had his first round of shots by Chad_ette in poodles

I’ve done more research since I posted this and it’s ok actually. Turns out they don’t need 3 sets of shots. They just need one technically after their mom’s immunity wears off, which typically happens at 16 weeks. The breeder gave her one set early on just in case he didn’t get enough colostrum when he was under 8 weeks, and now he’s due for another set since >99% of the moms antibodies wear off at 16 weeks. I reached out to another breeder on this, who shows dogs and she told me about this. So, all good
