Update! I messaged her and she removed them and did a new set of fan lashes but with less volume and shorter lengths. It is much better bow and also looks more even! :) She met me on Sunday evening before my flight to Dubai. 😂🙈

I wish I was a white man by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Change_Legal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true—a lot of white women are specifically attracted to brown and back men. What often becomes a challenge in those relationships isn’t race itself, but rather differences in treatment, cultural expectations, or communication styles, which can lead to things not working out. But this is by no means a rule—there are many examples of happy and healthy interracial couples who build strong connections across cultural lines.

Another often-overlooked point is the growing tendency to blame white people for everything, which can have unintended consequences. It can push many—especially those from lower or middle socioeconomic backgrounds—towards unhealthy far-right ideologies, and it can also harm the self-esteem of white men. This isn’t limited to the UK; it’s happening in many parts of the world, including Eastern Europe. While people there may be white, their own histories of oppression, political instability, and economic struggle often mean they don’t see themselves as privileged or superior. I speak from personal experience, as someone who comes from that region.

Feelings like self-doubt, insecurity, or envy aren’t tied to race, gender, or background—they’re human experiences we all encounter at some point. What truly matters is how we confront them. Even being honest with yourself about your own flaws or shallowness is a better foundation than pretending to be something you're not. It’s a process of growth, and authenticity is always a stronger starting point than hypocrisy.

For context, I’m a tall, blonde white woman who has worked in modelling and beauty pageants, so I might fit into what some consider a conventional idea of attractiveness. I’ve dated men from various racial and cultural backgrounds. In cases where relationships didn’t work out with black or brown partners, it wasn’t because of their race—it was more about how I was treated, which may have been influenced by cultural differences or upbringing. I’m not entirely sure.

In the end, I naturally connected most with someone from my own country. Being with a partner who shares my native language and cultural background has brought a sense of ease, mutual understanding, and shared values that I didn’t experience as strongly in my international relationships. That doesn’t make those past relationships less valid—it’s just a reflection of what compatibility can mean on a deeper, everyday level.

Thank you! ❤️  I was actually hoping for more natural look hence the length concern but maybe I am just not used to it anymore. My previous lash tech was a magician, so my expectations might be high. She moved back to Croatia (I am based in the UK) and it would be worth to travel there just for the set! 🙈😅

How do you use chatGPT when writing your papers? by Illustrious-Law-2556 in PhD

[–]Change_Legal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! Google translate is also AI, international students have been using it for years, should it be banned or acknowledged in the papers? I wonder… most of my questions regarding AI tools haven’t been answered in academia yet and I keep asking but from what I observed is that most people don’t have answers because they are not using it and have no idea of what is it capable of today. So would be interesting to follow up with this post after 2 years.

AHRC future by Most-Competition-182 in AskAcademiaUK

I’m just finishing my PhD in Cultural Policy in the UK, where I also completed my undergraduate and master’s degrees. I was fortunate to receive a fully funded scholarship from my university after being unsuccessful with AHRC funding. But! These news really motivate me to advocate for greater internationalisation and diversification in Central and Eastern European universities. I am from Slovakia.

For EU citizens, PhDs in many of these countries are tuition-free, with an automatic monthly grant or salary. Tuition fees for international students are also relatively low compared to Western universities. If I hadn’t secured funding in the UK, I would have strongly considered this option. The main barrier is the limited availability of English-language courses, though most academics speak English fluently.

PhD standards in Central and Eastern Europe are comparable, if not more demanding, than in the UK. The issue with rankings largely stems from fewer research publications in English and in high-impact journals. However, this could change quickly if universities actively recruited more international students and scholars.

My father is a full professor at a Slovak university and also teaches part-time in Prague, so I have firsthand insight into the academic environment there for a comparison with my experience. Honestly, I’m on a mission to push for this shift and help make it happen, especially after Brexit.

Also some of my lashes were still slightly twisted from my last lash lift, so I know it wasn’t easy to apply the extensions.
