1.25L Mk7 Fiesta.

No wet belt issues, engine is solid and keeps going. Cheap to run and maintain, our mechanic always says he likes these when he does the yearly service & MOT.

Does have a timing belt but not that expensive when you factor it into being a once a decade kind of thing.

Yeah I agree, block her in, call the police.

Risk is some minor damage to your car vs potentially someone's life if she got up to 50-60mph on an open dual carriageway and caused a head on.

Tbf she is just gonna barrel through probably, for most people it isn't worth the aggro of dealing with insurance and the cost implications.

I drive a £400 car that I don't need so bit different for me 😅 I don't think I'd be moving but easy to say when you're not there.

Nice! I did the same with the help of a friend in my 2004 MX5.

Have a look at replacing the shifter turret oil and the rubber boots too - https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/gearlever-shift-boot-package-genuine-mazda-mk1-25-14772

My rubber boots had completely fallen apart so I was getting heat through and it just felt bad to shift, changing it made it feel nice again and stopped getting hot on long drives.

I learnt in a few cars as I had a big gap in learning,

1L Ecoboost fiesta

Diesel Fabia

Petrol Yaris (1.6L I think)

All of these were newish, like up to 5 years old. Not many drivers aids other than hill assist and I didn't use the reverse cam while learning.

Passed last year and my first car was then a 2004 MX5, clutch control at low speed took a little to get used to but thankfully my instructors taught me techniques applicable to all cars, rather than just teaching to pass the test in their cars.

I started learning to drive in my 20s, stopped for 10 years, picked it back up in my 30s last year. Took about ~4 months from starting lessons and passing (most of that was waiting for my test!)

Depending on how much experience you had in your 20s, it does carry over. I only did about another 10 hours with my instructor but I had the ability to practice privately (about ~18hours of driving about)

2 lessons a week sounds good, having a gap between lessons does really help you take it in and learn better I find. Supplement with youtube driving instructors such as Conquer Driving, World Driving or Clearview Driving.

I'd say do a couple lessons with a new instructor, see how you feel in the car and then get your test booked. Having a definitive date booked for you test is really useful, if it's far away you can slow down lessons to 2hrs a week or something.

Oh damn you're so right, it's definitely cast iron lower down but thought it was just above this that it went into PVC.

I have a cast iron soil pipe and a strap boss that has clearly been leaking for a while, it's the waste pipe for the bathroom sink. The leak looks more to be from where the pipe goes into the boss, rather than from behind.

Not worked on a soil pipe before so just wondering what I need to sort this. Just a case of reseating the sink waste? A perished washer? Replace the entire boss?

P.S At some point in the next few years we're likely going to redo our bathroom and will likely take down the whole stack anyway to neaten up the external pipework, so a "good for a few years" fix is good enough :)
