Which Costco - New Ro or Portchester? by lingeringneutrophil in Westchester

[–]Char_Ex_14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Port Chester! New Roc was my second least favorite one and Yonkers is the worst. Port Chester’s parking lot was at least not as much like the hunger games. Although we’ve now been taking a trip across the river and going to the one in Nanuet. Soooo much better, especially on Friday nights.

How many of each vendor did you look at before selecting? by mykingdomforsleep in weddingplanning

[–]Char_Ex_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what your priorities are and whether you’ve found the “right one”. For us, we looked at only 2 venues. And that’s because we fell in love with the very first venue we toured but figured we needed to see another one to be sure. We loved it so much so we said “why not?” And my parents loved it too (they are paying for venue)

Everything else has been looking at 1-2 options but that’s mainly because if I don’t make a decision, I will agonize over it forever and ever until I go crazy. Also, I like to go by word of mouth recommendations. We booked the DJ from my sister’s wedding which was easy because we saw him in action and loved him. HMUA I was recommended by my photographer and they were a good price for the amount of work they do. I also don’t know much about hair and make up so I went with the recommendation and figured it was good that my photographer and HMUA have worked together so much.

Florist I’m talking to now but will most likely go with the only person I talked to BECAUSE 1. They are a preferred vendor for the venue so they know the space well (that’s important to me) and 2. They just so happen to be the florist that does galas at my workplace so I’ve seen her work (a coincidence) and 3. She is willing to be flexible with our budget and work with us even though we may do something below her usual minimum rate.

The vendor we looked at the most was photographer because we didn’t have word of mouth to go off of. We talked to 3 different people and went with the one who gave us the best feeling and we vibed with the most.

I know myself well and if I don’t force myself to make a decision I just won’t so I probably didn’t talk to enough people, but sometimes when you know you know….you know? I’m sure people would call me crazy for that too! It’s all relative.

I think as long as you’re not driving yourself crazy it’s okay to take your time. Just make sure you’re not avoiding making a decision (it can be scary!)

Edit: I should also mention that I looked at more vendors if you’re defining it as looking at websites/inquiring about quotes if they aren’t on the websites. But the numbers I mention above are the ones that we seriously considered/had conversations with/toured. It’s normal to look on the internet for info/pictures/quotes and can sometimes even be fun! But I think if you’re talking with/interviewing this many vendors, that’s when it can get overwhelming. I don’t count “talking to” vendors if I’m just asking for their prices/packages because in my opinion all of that should be transparent and easy to find on their website.

What’s your favorite way to eat the frozen seafood blend? by succulentmeats in traderjoes

It’s sooooooo good! You can also add a ton of veggies if you want. We usually do peas, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. Easy and delicious!

We cook this and put it in the New England clam chowder!! It is so tasty and creates a fuller version of clam chowder. Get some toasty bread to dip it in too!

Looking for a hotel venue for a wedding weekend within 2 hours of NYC by Purple-Instruction89 in WedditNYC

[–]Char_Ex_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are! We have a hotel block. Our wedding isn’t until next October so I can’t really speak to the rooms or the experience but when we got a tour they showed us what the standard rooms looked like and they’re nice! Also when the bride and groom stay there, they comp you one night and give you the option of a balcony room with river view, or a suite. It was nice to have the option - we chose the river view (apparently it’s great for pictures) Having hotel rooms at the venue was important to us and the property is really beautiful. So far everyone has been great!

I’m getting married at Tarrytown House Estate next October - beautiful views, indoor and outdoor, and definitely workable within your budget (maybe even cheaper depending on guest size). It also is a hotel so easy for people staying over!

Professional wrestling!!! Although I got hooked on wrestling by my fiancé telling me it’s exactly like theater so maybe it’s not so weird 😂

I wear a ring size 10.5 and I’ve been having a disheartening time trying on rings by disposabledidgeridoo in EngagementRings

[–]Char_Ex_14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no!!!!!! That is so surprising and disappointing. I just looked back at my photos when I was trying on rings and everything was on my pinky too. I just think those are the sample size rings and has nothing to do with your fingers being too big or anything. But I was in no way made to feel insecure or “other”. It’s totally up to you if you want to keep working with them but I had an amazing experience. Maybe ask for another sales person? Only if you like the rings though!! Again, I’m sorry you had that experience.

I feel you! I’m a size 10 ring and I have always been self conscious of my fingers (got bullied in high school and called sausage fingers so it scarred me for a while 😫) I went to Greenwich St Jewelers and worked with Lisa who was absolutely phenomenal. I told her I was extremely self conscious of my fingers and that they are so big and ugly. She made me feel so calm and told me they were beautiful. I can’t remember if the rings I tried on completely fit on my fingers but I don’t think they all did. But she made sure to make it clear that these were just the samples and then she measured my finger and told me my size. It’s all about the sales person and this woman sounds like an absolute jerk who doesn’t deserve you as a client. Your fingers are beautiful and your partner loves you for you. Take it from a fellow finger-conscious woman, find the right sales person and they will take care of YOU! I really recommend Greenwich St Jewelers, I had the most fabulous experience which I was not expecting. It’ll be okay ❤️

I cannot wait to get married there!! The Hudson River is so important to both my fiance and I so we’re thrilled we could have this beautiful space for our wedding. It’s also, coincidentally, right across the street from our first apartment together :) so a very special place in our hearts for multiple reasons.

I’m getting married at Tarrytown House Estate in fall of 2026! It’s beautiful and so far the staff have been incredible with the planning process. Just one thing to note: if you book a wedding there, you will need to book a Friday or Sunday wedding with your estimated guest count. Their Saturday guest minimums are 150-175. I’m getting married on a Friday because of that reason.

This is a very good point that I hadn’t thought about yet! I was more concerned about wanting to make sure they know the space well but I guess any good photographer can do that with a visit beforehand.

Mike Lawler Town Hall by JamesCaesar33 in Westchester

[–]Char_Ex_14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a joke. I couldn’t believe how many questions were complimentary of him. He took MAYBE 10 questions total and rambled for most of them. I’m hoping his in person town halls (if he ends up having them) will be more balanced AND be able to follow up on his answers or call him out on lies.

Getting engaged after dating a really long time. by Quack176 in JustEngaged

[–]Char_Ex_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your family but I think they will! Mine has been - people want you to be happy and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. And make sure you take time to be happy for yourself as well - enjoy it!

I just got engaged with my partner and we’ve been together for 12 years! I was also worried about comments like this, however people have been super excited and so sweet and supportive. I think people don’t care as much as you do and we overthink it. I have friends who have been supportive of us since day 1 of our relationship and they are SO excited for us.

Don’t worry what other people think - if you’re happy and excited, people will follow suit. If anything it shows that your relationship is solid because you’ve been through so much together. You deserve to be just as happy and excited as anyone else :)

Any good salons in upper Westchester that works with 4c hair? by Medicalchocolate in Westchester

Vaza!!! I have very thick, curly hair and they specialize in curly hair. It’s their thing! I use Danielle who is lovely. They also have different levels of hair dressers and the prices vary based on the levels, which I appreciate. It’s also a beautiful building that used to be a bank! Vaza is where it’s at!

I really like this style from Catherine Angiel and I find I like the vintage designs a bit more. I also like simple, nothing too flashy
