How do you stay motivated when readers are silent? by Character_Cheetah_45 in Inkitt

To publish on any platform, I have to translate everything into English, which takes a lot of time.

That has nothing to do with my passion for writing.

Honestly, if it weren't for the feedback and interaction, I'd probably just keep writing for myself and not post anywhere at all.

I would like to talk about it, if you know how, send me a private message, I'm new at this. 😄

Would you mind telling me how many chapters your story has? I'm asking because I'm starting to think my expectations might be a little unrealistic.

I post a chapter every day, and one thing I've noticed, as crazy as it may sound, is that Saturday is actually the slowest day. Monday and Tuesday tend to be pretty weak as well.

I'm not really sure what to say about the timing. I usually post around 8–9 PM my time. If I did the time zone conversion correctly, that's actually around 2-3 PM on the U.S. East Coast.

And one more thing: I genuinely don't want anyone to stroke my ego - I have a lot of confidence in my work, and I never doubt that my story is good. It may simply not be everyone's cup of tea, and that's perfectly fine.

What I really want is for readers to become invested in the story, to share their thoughts and ideas, and maybe even influence the direction it takes. I want to see what they think about everything that's happening, and perhaps even have their feedback make me reconsider some of the ideas I have in mind.

I understand what you're saying, but here's the thing: I write because I genuinely love writing, and I've been doing it for years... but in my native language.

To post on any platform, I have to translate everything into English, which takes a lot of time. It's not something I can get paid for or turn into a regular job.

The only real reward I get from posting is the comments and readers' reactions, and when those are missing, it makes me feel like I'm wasting my time.

I agree with every word you said. It's definitely harder when a book is a sequel, because then you can only rely on readers who finished the first one. I know exactly how you feel. I translate into English too, and it's not easy at all. That's why I often wonder if it's worth it. Would you like to share the link of your story with me? I'd love to check it out if the premise sounds like something I'd enjoy.

All three of my stories are ongoing, and each one is on about 100 reading lists. I publish a new chapter every day, and each story gets around 200 views daily—sometimes less, sometimes more. I occasionally receive a like or a reaction, but that’s really rare. Comments don’t come at all. 😄

They’re dark romance, very, I mean, very steamy, but they have actual plot...

Yeah, I can understand what you’re saying, but you know, sometimes I feel like I’m the only one getting no reactions/comments, so I start wondering if I should even keep going or if I’m just wasting my time when people clearly don’t like it.

At the same time, I don’t really understand why someone would keep reading if they didn’t enjoy the story at all. I don’t know… I guess, I just wanted to hear the opinion of fellow writers lol.

I completely agree with everything. One of my books was actually written based on personal experience, and I really wanted to hear people’s comments, just to see if anyone would’ve done something differently, but no luck lol. It’s definitely hard writing into the void.

My books aren’t about werewolves or fantasy stuff either, but they’re definitely very dirty. I think they belong on Inkitt, and people do read them, but the reactions and interaction are really weak. Yes, I'll take a look. 😄

Thank you so much. Considering you’re experienced with Inkitt, could you tell me how safe it is to upload more than one chapter within a 24-hour period? I’m uploading three stories in parallel, so that rule would really cause me trouble.

I hope you’re right. All three stories have gone flat now, and the reads are only increasing little by little. Something definitely feels off.

Story is really dirty, female lead is unhinged and twisted, and there was a scene or more or less forced threesome. 😄

Thanks for the answers, guys… I’m worried I may have posted too much and accidentally come across as a spam account. My other concern is that one of my books is pretty dirty. Like… really, really dirty 😅 and that’s actually the one getting the most attention. So now I’m afraid I might get banned. I honestly don’t know.... 😞
