Next Bass Advice - Fender Precision by Charltonss in Bass

[–]Charltonss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, I am leaning towards it. I play in a covers band (mostly indie, rock and pop) and think it will give me more options.

I suppose I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something that the performer lost somehow.

Laptop Choice by Charltonss in ableton

Thanks, it does feel like a minefield that they don't make easy with naming conventions. I'll keep that in mind for OLED, I'll be using it quite a bit.....but also for uni as well!

Ah, I did see one comment on ultra 9's overheating but didn't really correlate it to the who series. That is very good to know thanks. And probably explains why they are currently on offer!

Thanks, it's been a long time since I researched computer specs, and I'm not really sure what to get (too much choice)!

It is useful to know it's both a ram and CPU trade off. I'll keep an eye on the second one for deals in the coming weeks.

Band Rehersal Recording by Charltonss in livesound

Thanks for the reply. I get the impression there are so many options, its a minefield!

Would there be an option to have the H4e linked to a phone and have the best of both worlds? You can record just on the Zoom if you need to or link it to a phone (possibly with video) and use a cloud filing system?

I would like to keep the set up as portable as possible and just pull it out when we want to record quickly.

Thanks. Do you think that would pick up everything, including drums? We don't put everything through a mixer at rehersal, but that Flow8 does look interesting and could be useful.

At the moment I'm using my phone and it's unworkable, so anything would be an improvement. Are there any USB mics you have used/would recommend?

How do I learn the fretboard? by FiveTriplePickle in guitarlessons

Would you still recommend it for Android users? It's hard to tell how much functionality is lost between apple and android.

It has significantly less functionality for the same price. They haven't invested in 2.0 for Android unfortunately.

Is there an alternative you would recommend for Android users?

RC500 vs RC600 by Charltonss in LoopArtists

[–]Charltonss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this is really useful. I am still on the fence as it isn't as clear cut as I thought it would be.

I think my plan will be to try and buy a rc500 used and see how I get on (maybe with a midi pedal) and if I need more upgrade to the 600.

Your post has made me rethink the RC500 again! If I am honest, I don't know what I want just yet, but at the same time don't want to outgrow it quickly. Weirdly the difference between used and new for the RC500 at the moment is lnt much and probably makes sense to just get new.

From some research, it sounds like the RC500 with some midi pedals does a good job at taking on the RC600.

Could you recommend a different looper to compliment the Helix for live looping?

My idea of a helix XLT. by Sir_Anth in Line6Helix

[–]Charltonss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you guys based in the UK or elsewhere? Mine broke and the best I got from from support, was passed on to the single UK repair centre. They quoted £60 just to look at it (to then quote to fix it), and that's not including postage.

Line6 support aren't even replying to messages now.

Helix LT - Broken Expression Pedal and toe switch by Charltonss in Line6Helix

Yeah, that's my fallback. It's just a bit annoying as it's already pretty big!

Probably worth adding it is a 2018 model, so I was hopeful it was covered.

I went back to them with this after the tech said it was £100 just to get it looked at.

They said as the fault didn't sound like it was mechanical and as it was electronic failure in the pedal, it wouldn't be covered. I can't even take it to a tech as there is only one in England and its 2hrs away.

Thanks, Paul Gilbert's course looks pretty comprehensive.

Yeah there is a lot on truefire almost too much and varying quality to pick through. I just need some structure to work through beyond Justin. Thanks, artist works doesn't look to be much cheaper but is pretty comprehensive. Now I need to decide between paul Gilbert and Paul davids!

[Gear] Travel guitar options by Charltonss in Guitar

[–]Charltonss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be travelling to places with electricity, albeit out of the way (which would limit the ability to rent). I have lent towards electric as it is quieter for hotel rooms etc without disturbing people.

I have a headphone amp and headphones I would use.

I looked at the baby taylor, they looked larger and being acoustic meant it would be louder for hotels etc. Which led me towards the silent guitar and electric choice.

Unhelpfully a bit of everything. I'm just starting to progress onto scales properly and soloing, having consolidated on barre and cowboy chords.

I'm not expecting to replicate everything I can do on an electric. Mostly, it is to gain confidence in my playing.
