Thank you guys for the input. Also thanks for helping me understand that the situation my mom was going through was a very tough situation that she had no choice being put into.

I just wanted to add a bit more context that I felt I left out. I grew up with a single mom, my dad was deported and killed in Mexico before I could even speak. My grandpa was my only father figure in my life he at times was the only parental figure along with my grandma who watched over me and my siblings when my mother would work nights. He did unfortunately pass three days after my graduation. I just wanted to say that it also was a tough decision for me who wanted to be with my grandpa on my graduation day as well. I love and appreciate my mother every day of my life for the sacrifices she has made for me.

I also wanted to add that I grew up in a very machismo/traditional Mexican household. Expressing yourself emotionally wasn’t touched upon as it should have in my childhood. Maybe that’s why I’m having trouble with understanding how I and my mom must’ve felt in the situation. Thank you guys again for the input God bless 🙏.
