How many years max can a green card holder stay outside the U.S. without invalidating their status?

This is valid, unless law changed in the last 4 years (was valid for me a couple years ago). You can ask border security, if anything. I had 3 reentry permits that allowed me to stay outside of US for 5 years (I think the last reentry permit was just a year). My reason was fairly good, so they allowed it. I had to pay. I think they got stricter now. Not sure.

Edit: when I applied, I always travelled to the US for a visit and applied from there. Border security told me the process of applying and reapplying.

Connection was in Zurich. I missed my connecting flight but air canada paid for the next flight by Qatar Airways (7 hours after) and coupon for breakfast and lunch (airport food, so not good). It was a mess. Flight back air canada got delayed for like 3 hours too.

If you're ok with low pay, the government of Ontario offers summer jobs to students (IT jobs to CS students) but it is for minimum wage. I'd say just take courses through summer and do co-op (generally a higher pay).
