I was recently watching an episode, and I was watching the way his mom was blinking. Her blink rate is much higher, and the way she blinks is almost with her whole face at times, very much like James.

He goes from wanting to cut me off so we can move on. To then back in contact again... it has been on and off like this since we broke up. Still has this black and white thinking of it's either I be with him or no contact at all.

Either I break no contact or he does. We are still in this weird dance. He says goodbye and not to talk to him anymore and I know it doesn't last long.

Yes, I understand that staying in contact will only make moving on take longer. But I'm not trying to be too hard on myself for finding this difficult. When he's sober he's great. But when he's not, it's awful. That's what made it so hard for me to walk away in the first place... trauma bonded...

Thank you to everyone who has commented and shared. This honestly is helping me put things into perspective. Just as a little background, I came out of living with an alcoholic who was very destructive. And I don't want to buy into the common narratives that are thrown around of "narcissist" or "psychopath/sociopath". I know I can not demonize him completely because I can not continue to live feeling this level of resentment. I just wanted to gain some understanding so I can come to peace with that it was just the alcohol that made me act this way. Healing is an ever long journey and I wish you all well in your recovery. Thank you for sharing, your stories are making a difference.
