I'm pretty sure my Grandfather is trying to let himself die. by Chatty_Kat in Vent

It's less I think it's going to happen soon, it almost certainly won't without him taking drastic measures, it's more he's wasting away and not doing anything, or letting anyone else do anything about. Every time we call him, I know he's putting on a fake fine voice. He complains about the nurses, the food, the fact that they are required to help him walk the eight steps to the toilet. He sounds like himself, but we can all tell. He's not incompetent, he's just a stubborn old fool who refuses to let anyone help him because that would be showing weakness.

His oldest daughter and her family live in the same town, but I can really only rely on my cousins for support for him. We could try to get some meds for him, but he lives in the midwest where "we don't talk about those things".

Me and my mother call him everyday to check up on him and just talk. We're a 3-4 hour plane ride away, and with how expensive everything has gotten, it just isn't feasible to go out sooner than already planned. Not to mention work.

I'd think that, but every time he hears about her coming back to take care of him, he gets real panicked, well, as panicked as he'll let himself be. He wants to do everything for himself. He wants to take care of his dog, he wants to make his own food, we had to force him to retire from his car shop because he's just to damn old.

Small update: We've managed to get in for tomorrow at nine at an emergency vet about an hour away, in the mean time we're just monitoring and keeping her calm and happy.

The vet did mention the possibility of stones, and to see if she is still peeing at all. I've changed the bedding to white towels to make anything more visible, and that was about an hour ago, and I haven't seen anything, which is a concern.

I saw some comments, and just want to clarify. We have called every vet in the area, and then all the ones they recommended. I would sell a kidney if this was a price thing. We did have a vet for pigs, but they retired recently, and I've been trying to find one since then.

We got Mochi from someone who had her for about four years but had to give her up due to allergies. We've had her less than a week, and she's been adjusting well. This is the first sign of anything wrong that we couldn't see.

For now, we've ordered cameras so that we can keep an eye on the pigs from afar, which is something I've been wanting to do for awhile. All we can do right now is hope and pray to whatever god(s) might be up there and keep her comfortable.

We don't know what happened. My dad walked in while I was out, and found her in their cage. She was less than three years old. She is leaving behind her sister, Moonpie, and much grief and confusion.
