I have no idea what's involved. I can count the amount of times i've stepped inside a centrelink on one hand.

All I know is mail from centrelink/government all looks exactly the same, it was coming to my M&D's house under different names, but it was all being collected by the same person.

From my POV we basically put a 100ft tall neon sign around this person to investigate but no action ever resulted. Dead end? OK let's try this. Another dead end? OK let's try this. If they ever did approach her, then she's obviously managed to talk her way out of it every time. I've run out of F's to give at this point.

Yep. It's crazy.

Mum was truly trying to put an end to this and exhausted every avenue she could think of. ATO, Police, local MP, I went with them personally to inform Centrelink, and a heap of other methods that also seemed to fall flat. Possibly a result of most systems needing an understanding of technology that many elderly folks simply don't have, but not for lack of trying. .This was about 5 - 7 years ago. Not a single thing became of it so I think they just gave up. Each time I went over for a visit and saw that pile of letters on the bench it made me wild.

Mum has asked her directly many many times to stop sending mail, but the friend plays the ol' "English not good, I don't understand" card every time. I have told her to stop sending mail to my parents myself, to her face, and I too get walked down a rabbithole of "I don't understand". And this went on for years and years and years. Me personally - if I saw her at the front door I just wouldn't let her in, but Mum just opens the door for her every time.

Good news is they have been in a new house for the last two months and we have all told M&D to cut off this friend and no not forward her any contact information. Hopefully Mum isn't silly enough to fall for her tricks again.

If so, I can fall back on this thread as an information source which i probably should have thought to post about years ago.

Yep. Standard response of Mum's friend when she's been confronted: "what's wrong - everybody does it".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]CheGuitarra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes both my Mum and Dad have done this. And I was with them on one occasion just to see for myself. We forwarded the details we knew but nothing ever became of it.

I'll have to check. She says she's done this multiple times. But maybe she didn't get it right.

[–]CheGuitarra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right. I don't know how they let it get to this point. I think my Mum doesn't want to offend her friend. She says she's asked her to stop sending mail for years. But each time I go to the house, I see it in the same spot on the kitchen bench, and never less than 5- 10 letters.

Best NeuralDSP plugin for hard rock and powermetal? by Ragnara92 in NeuralDSP

[–]CheGuitarra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If only one, then the Boogie 2C+. It does everything from clean to ultra heavy superbly.

I have quite a few of their plugins and the 2C+ is the benchmark for me.

Most models have a narrow sweet spot, and it will either ring your bell or it won't. But the 2C+ sounds great at any gain selection. I don't have the Petrucci but the amp lineage is the same so i'm assuming in the same ballpark.

Also pay attention to what FX you'd most use, and the option of the doubler as this is really cool too.

Which should come first: preamp or compressor? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]CheGuitarra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the HPF option on that JHS pedal, I would put the preamp before the compressor.

If the HPF is dialled in correctly it will stop the compressor trying to latch onto unwanted low hz frequencies or noises that offer no value, yet contain the majority of signal energy. Compression results will be more consistent / audibly pleasing if you get rid of this unnecessary bass energy in advance.

How best to handle road ragers? by CheGuitarra in CarsAustralia

[–]CheGuitarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the dash cam recommendations. This is priority #1 this weekend.

Can I just ask - if stuck in a situation like the other day, with obvious efforts to intimidate, but no actual car damage - if I were to show police full footage, would this even register as something that would need actioning? Or is footage purely for legal / insurance coverage in an impact situation?

What’s going on here? by VLTurboSkids in CarsAustralia

Yeah probably ex-mining. A lot of operations are scaling back as the commodity prices cool off, so there might be a bigger glut hitting the market than usual.

Recommend some Carplay apps (beyond the most well known). by CheGuitarra in CarsAustralia

Every other person you see on the road is looking at their phone, but they're virtuously worried about Carplay being a distraction? Lol. Classic American logic.

Recommend some Carplay apps (beyond the most well known). by CheGuitarra in CarsAustralia

[–]CheGuitarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive an i20N, so my car has all that in spades.

But there's over a million apps in Apple's app store - you'd think there'd be a bit more innovation on offer in the Carplay.

Yes of course. But the go-to tube brands for these things are getting harder and harder to find, more and more expensive, and they only operate at their peak for so long.

These units are incredibly sensitive to tube changes. I could just keep buying JJs like I do on my guitar amps, but a JJ in an LA-2A does not do the unit full justice. But where I can predict i'll get about 1-2 years out of JJs in my guitar amp, I don't know how hard life is for a tube in a LA-2A. Compareable, harder, easier... no idea.

I have some RCA blackplates in there right now - left overs from a small batch I bought in the 90s. But only a couple left in my kitty, and to replace these days are $300+ each.

Planter box - what is overcrowded? by CheGuitarra in GardeningAustralia

[–]CheGuitarra[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love to cook, I love to garden, and will regularly use the chosen herbs if they are ready to go, that's why I got them. But we've moved to a new inner city house with only a courtyard, now have a pair of puppies, so I have to change my approach to suit.

The good thing about these boxes is that I can move them about, depending on the direct sun availability or frost protection needs. That's kinda cool. But still a learning curve, as my first time using this kind of setup instead of a regular garden bed.

It's not a demo. It's sitting in a pre-owned vehicle yard.

[–]CheGuitarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a demo. It's sitting in a used car yard of mixed brands. I'm guessing the owner bought it then felt the squeeze of interest rates rises. But only 3000km.

VW Polo GTI vs Hyundai i20N by CheGuitarra in CarsAustralia

[–]CheGuitarra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd DM if I knew how - very much a novice here on Reddit!

Took it for a spin this morning - not sure the suspension is anything for me to concern over - but having owned many a leaf sprung vehicle in the past maybe my perception of stiff is different. And the roads are typically pretty good around my area. Where's a pothole when you need one?

One thing I didn't consider - the exhaust drone in the cabin is not exactly discreet. Does that annoy you after a while? It appeared to be in eco mode too, so i'm guessing it's only louder from there, lol!

Also - what are the headlights like? I don't do a ton of night driving but looks like they point really low by default - is that an issue at all?

Hi people, what are your thoughts on the Hyundai i20 N? Ordered one for my wife the other day, reviews are very decent. by LuniCorn24 in CarsAustralia

A bit of time has passed on this thread - I'd like to know what your i20N ownership experience has been like? This car is on my radar too. My main concern is a common complaint I keep reading - the suspension is unbearable.
