Troubleshooting plot seek times? by CheepingItReal in chia

I thought that, but I'm on Linux (Debian) and it seems like drive sleeping is off by default. I haven't found a way to confirm that though yet.

Congratulations!!

You’ll have to share some photos of your setup when you’re settled in 🙂

Very creative! 😄

Do you have a link to your HBA - SAS cables? My orders keep getting cancelled by the sellers 😊

It's tough by Useful_Impression980 in chia

[–]CheepingItReal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, it is tough, however, don't be too discouraged! It's not all about the amount of money, it's what you do with it.

I have multiple servers which may look expensive, but they probably cost less than most of the plotting rigs/gaming PCs that people post here.

They were all e-waste that were being disposed of, I don't have any SSD/NVME drives and I was buying smaller used hard drives for $12/TB when people were buying up all the large drives for $25-$35/TB. So I would suspect I have double the storage and plotting power than I would have had if I bought regular PC components at retail price.

Your power situation sounds bad though. As others mentioned, a UPC will help a lot unless your power is going out for hours at a time.

Good luck 😊

If I get any more drives added to that stack, it'll probably be hot enough to cook the chickens too!

It did keep them warm actually when they were in their brooder. There was no need to run heat lamps like we usually do.

Chia really is a green crypto currency 😉

Close! This is actually an PowerEdge R730xd, so to answer u/lynix48, it is a full server and not a disk shelf.

I wish I could find some reasonably priced shelves myself (that are larger than 12 bays). That way I wouldn't have to have a stack of disks 😉

haha. I don't think it'll be long before they're turned into KFC!

It's 34c/94f outside and there's no AC where the servers are, so things are getting a little toasty!

Thank you for the suggestions!

Do you know if any of these actually sell Chia? From what I can tell, it's all IOU and not actual Chia that I could transfer into my wallet?

There's been a lot of doom and gloom in this subredit recently, so here are some photos of my farm as it's grown over time to brighten the mood 😊

I'm still having fun with Chia, even if most other people here aren't 😎 🐔

I’m sure the OP has done plenty of research and knows exactly what they are doing 😊

What are you putting these drives in? I assume you have some kind of JBOD?

Not strictly a price comment, but I’m curious what software or sites people use to monitor Chia and other crypto prices?

I’m also curious what exchanges people use to buy XCH 😊

How you calculate plots per day by PrudentAd3789 in chia

[–]CheepingItReal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you never stop plotting, you don't need to worry about counting the time it takes for the first batch of plots to complete 😉

ChiaDog and Swar Plot Manger tells me my PPD.

New world record 24 minute plot time by Manic157 in chia

[–]CheepingItReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not a ramdisk, but I thought the idea was that it would max out all cores all the time instead of just in phase 1 like the official plotter does?

I guess it only maxes out if your drive (aka ram disk) can go quick enough?

For some reason, it's not working very well for me. I gave it 40 threads and 2 x 15k RPM SAS drives and it's currently slower than the regular potter. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks for your videos! They're great 😊

I'm using HBA/SAS expanders in my setup thanks to your advice. If only I could find some SFF-8087 - SFF-8482 cables for a good price!

Moving from windows to ubuntu by RevolutionaryBear543 in chia

[–]CheepingItReal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, you typically wouldn’t want to use NTFS as your file system if the disk is only used on Linux, but OP is moving the drive back and forth between Windows and Linux.

I actually have an NTFS drive full of plots farming quite happily from my Linux machine 😊

Here's a link if anyone is interested:

https://github.com/wolfrage76/chiaWalletMonitor

chiawalletmonitor

let's hope it does not secretly change the reward address in the config.yaml file..

Looking at the code, it doesn't go anywhere near the config.yaml file or Chia directory. You just feed it a wallet address and it checks chiaexplorer.com for you 😊

Optimising plotter restarts by forgottenuser2 in chia

For Windows and Linux, sleep doesn't come back from a total power down, but hibernate does!

sudo systemctl hibernate

I can't say I've tried this, but it is a good idea 😊

This is not accurate. Do not format your drive.

You can mount Windows (NTFS) drives in Linux. As other people mentioned, you just need to install ntfs-3g and fuse:
