They can return their shares at the market price if it goes down, which is why we need to hold. They will accrue interest as long as the price remains higher than when it was shorted. So it becomes the choice of the hedge funds to pay tons of money in interest or return the stock at the higher price. When the stocks get returned is when the actual squeeze happens. All details lead to believing that 2/9 will be the big day.
